So, I have also been wondering what has been debated over the internet for a while now. Are Gary and the white wolf we see in the beginning of the movie the same character?

That's true. A lot of the differences between members of certain species are literally invisible to humans - and the reverse is probably also true.

I noticed there are many reused models on polar bears, wolves, tigers, rams and lions.

I don't think any of them are meant to be look-alikes per se. I just think that some, like polar bears for instance, can only vary a bit in appearance in animation, let alone even in the real world.

Well not precisely. Though there is also a white wolf in that scene. I was more referring to the agouti colored/marked wolf trainer who looks a little like Larry.

I've thought about it too, and while it does look like they might NOT be the same character, I'd still like an official confirmation just so I can be sure.

You will note, Wild, that Larry and the one wolf in the bullpen scene are actually slightly different in color. And the guys at the asylum are guards, not police officers. So they're probably not the same guys.
