Guess what? The latest layout for Zootopia Source is ready for your enjoyment--and it's gonna knock you right off your feet!

Thaaaat's right--we've completed another one! I know what you might be thinking at this moment, but look...there was no accident to including the last choice in the latest site poll ("I'm still awaiting the next style!"). We wanted to see just how serious you guys really have been in wanting us to continue this layout ("style") design process. And clearly there is indeed sufficient interest. Though this may be the last new layout until after the DVD/Blu-Ray release...I think. We've laid out five styles now. Given the other sources, that's unprecedented! Yes, more are in the works (Bunnyburrow and perhaps Outback Island specifically, and those may be the very last of the layout designs we will be doing), but I think we may need a bit of a break after this one, which vexed us a bit!
So this is also the first layout that has been desiged based upon interpretations and best guesses (and what little of an official nature has been stated by Byron Howard and Richard Moore, as noted in the previous fan news), rather than upon any environment actually seen in the movie. We envisioned the deep, dark places in the Earth...sheer rock walls, gritty and dark locations, underground caves and caverns and lakes, stalactites and stalagmites, bioluminescent mushrooms and worms, that kind of stuff. And we hope you'll be pleased with the results (I know this will now be my new favorite layout!). For those of you who like dark environments, this should be right up your alley! (And, as inferred before, this one will be made the default layout during the Halloween season!) Remember now, that our activity is not simply going to be confined to creating layouts...we're simply awaiting the release of the DVD/Blu-Ray so we can access more information in order to broaden the experience for each of you! And, of course, we are always eager to see new contributions on here!
Of course, we encountered a BIT of a site glitch while creating this style. You'll note that, on other layouts across Animation Source, there are center content windows over the backgrounds. Those disappeared when we started working on this one. Steet has been notified and, if he can fix it, we'll get it squared away. Of course, it doesn't look BAD the way it is right now (in fact, it looks kinda cool!), but we want to maintain as much consistency with other layouts as possible.
As with the other layouts, if you want to access this one, just go up to the top left-hand side of the page, below the banner (and just below "Languages"), and you'll see a clickable link which says "Choose a style". Click that, and a window will open that will allow you to choose between existing styles we've created. Nocturnal District is located at the bottom of the current list of choices.
For the future layouts, if you'd like to offer input and suggestions, you should know where to reach us.

If the Nocturnal District is shown in any sequel to Zootopia, we will certainly replace it. In the meanwhile, I don't see site builders rushing to either create new layouts with photos on them, or to change existing ones. This was a non-issue until you brought it up. And look what has resulted. This entire comment thread has turned negative. Because you made it an issue. I see nothing good in what you've done here except to generate a negative stream of commenting that is going to be (and already has become) a major buzzkill.
Then, I wasn't trying to be heartbreaking (I did compliment things on the first design but it seems you've noticed only the negative aspects, how strange...), I was just pointing at the fact the rules say "don't use photos" while you did. As simple as that. It IS actually necessary because if YOU can use it for the design, why members couldn't on their fan images? It wouldn't seem fair.

The problem I have with what you did is that you have thrown out criticism of the work we have done, and then accused us of breaking the rules. And so far have not had a single positive thing to say about anything we've done on here. I've complimented you and Barrow on the work you've done over on your Zootopia layout. And I felt it was deserved. Even if I did have any critical thoughts, I kept them to myself (because history here shows how "well" even my constructive criticisms have been received by certain people on this site).
As I said, I never expected to be able to please everyone. But the last thing I expected was to log back in and see that criticism, and an accusation of rules breaking, thrown at us. It was completely disheartening, and really not very nice. And it was unnecessary.
And why are you talking about people breaking the rules? That's not an example to follow. If the rules say so for fan images I don't see why it should be different for the site design. Why would we oppose it to members but allow it for the team?
And sure it would have been different without using photos, perhaps worse, perhaps better, but ask Steet first if you have a doubt.
As for the shadows on the background, I've been taught from my very beginning as a site builder to respect the design established by Steet but it probably have changed with time. Once again, I don't say it is bad as in "bwaaah, it's ugly!" I just say I think it isn't allowed.

We fully realize that we're not going to please everyone, but we didn't expect the response that you gave. And I certainly hope you are not going to make a case of this, which will ruin the experience for everyone who does like this layout. The Noctural District didn't appear in the original movie, but was mentioned and is also talked about by the directors. We're on a good track here. I hope you're not going to derail it for us. If you don't like what you're seeing, while you are fully entitled to your opinion, you are not required or expected to stay.
Ugh.
As for the use of photos (meanwhile, people trace over screenshots and claim the renders as their own artwork), I don't know if that rule even applies to the design of the site. But neither JC or myself are taking credit for the photos used here, nor would have it been possible to create this design if we hadn't used photos. I suppose we could have found alternatives, but I just don't think it would have worked out as nicely.
However, sharing Disney's project about the nocturnal district was interesting. But I don't think you can use photos for your design as long as it isn't allowed in fan images (Just to remind the rules, I quote: "Pictures from digital camera are not allowed, even if they are captured by yourself. So it's forbidden in any case.")
