Appearance: Olivia prides herself on making an impression no matter what she wears, especially when that impression is one of elegance. Though she has dresses for any occasion, she prefers dark green shades and tailoring reminiscent of Victorian-era royalty, often accented with a few well-placed diamonds. She considers it vulgar and lowbrow to overdo it on the jewelry, but she's not too humble to wear her wealth.
History: Olivia's parents, Arthur and Judith Poisson, immigrated to Zootopia from France (or that world's equivalent to France) in search of a better life, but found that life for skunks was difficult just about everywhere. Because of their odor, the couple had few employment opportunities – and none to speak of which were not filthy, demeaning, or both.
Instead of merely enduring that reality, Arthur resolved to find a way to invert the public's perception of their kind. He combined his wife's passion for gardening with his own skill in chemistry, seeking a way to make skunks more appealing to the common nose. His efforts ultimately culminated in the company Pwasson's Passion (altering the spelling of his name was an indignity he never did learn to stomach), Zootopia's top producer of shampoo, perfume, cologne, etc. - but at a great cost. Because of the small fortune of hard-earned money which starting his company required, he, his wife, and his children spent decades in a state of poverty even with both parents working copious hours. Worse, the endless hours of haggling and even pleading with skeptical investors left him with little time and less energy for his family.
Raised against this backdrop, Olivia started work at a very early age, often going to lengths which would have stunned even her parents if they had known the whole truth. While she has never divulged most of her work history (much of it off the record) to anyone, it is not unlikely that she often lied to her parents about where she got much of what she brought home. Inspired by her work ethic, and perhaps by his own guilt, Arthur made the decision to pass the family business on to her, saying that he could think of no one better to ensure that the company would thrive.
Olivia was as surprised as anyone, and still more so when she found herself in command of a large corporation and the sizeable fortune which came with it. In full control of her destiny for the first time in her life, she's determined to prove that her father chose wisely to leave her in charge. Once in an interview, when asked about rumors concerning her private life, she answered thus: “My father worked long and hard to equalize the playing field of aroma, and I have supported him in that work since the day I was old enough to push a lawnmower. Now I work for the same goal – equality for mammals – and I will not be treated with suspicion and scorn by fools who can't see past the ends of their overrated noses.”
Personality: Though much has been said about “the real Olivia D. Poisson,” little is actually known for sure about her personal life, the full extent of her goals, or how far she is willing to go to accomplish them. She has few whom she trusts with anything personal – indeed, perhaps no one outside of her family and her head maid, Lillian Grey, who isn't talking. A few things, however, are plain.
Olivia is, without a doubt, rather prideful – a sin of which she makes no secret, but which she justifies with the argument that she worked long and hard to get where she is. She has a very dim view of anyone with a sense of entitlement, or anything which she suspects of engendering a sense thereof (for example, she has mixed feelings about the Mammal Inclusion Initiative, which she feels was mostly a political ploy and largely overlooked skunks). She also has a dim view of males, though this hasn't stopped her from dating a staggering number of them. The reasons for this apparent contradiction are not clear.
It has also been noted that she has large, often controlling, investments in a number of start-up businesses – if she deems them worthy of the funding, of course. Some have accused her of using this as a means to control various markets or even cover up financial ties to criminal organizations. She flatly denies both accusations, arguing that her accusers are simply motivated by envy and are too cowardly to take her on fair terms. Despite her defense, the ZPD has recently decided to investigate her corporation for their significant and long-standing use of nighthowlers in their products, and the suspicion that this has some connection to the recent conspiracy.
Skills and Interests:
Business – Olivia has a knack for investing and haggling, and rarely gets the bad end of a deal. She not only runs Pwasson's Passion, but has invested small fortunes in various startup companies throughout the city.
Chemistry – specializes in biochemistry and phermones. She once bragged that she could put someone in a coma using only ingredients found in a standard makeup kit or the typical flower garden – and then bring them out of it any time she chose.
Networking – It's not easy to do something in Zootopia that Olivia Poisson can't find out about if she wants to. With connections to most of the city's political and business figures, she doesn't need to put her ear to the ground; she's already got plenty of other mammals doing it for her.
Hosting – Despite her rigid air of respectabiliy, few animals ever want to miss a Poisson party. Rumor has it she's got direct lines to every upscale bakery, decorater, caterer, and wine shop in the city.
Dislikes: Gold diggers and slackers.
Connection to Zootopia: Her company once employed Doug, though he was fired years before the Nighthowler Incident for reasons never made public. More recently, Olivia has been investigated by Judy following the Nighthowler Incident, due to her company's use of the flowers as an active ingredient.
