Digging Deeper
Personality;; Rangi Lyca can be described as a modern, stylish canine with a head strong attitude. She enjoys indulging herself in style trends that come and go, usually modling her wardrobe appearance after the sensation, Gazelle. As a family oriented animal, Rangi likes to stay in groups with others that she finds herself close with, like Whistler Mackenzie and other members of the ZPD force. Optimistic, knowledgeable, and hardworking, she has a knack for computers and devices, finding herself the happiest on her phone.
History;; Miss Lyca is from a mining region, heavily populated with Africa’s lesser predators, such as jackals and wild dogs. Before moving to Zootopia, she lived at home with both her nuclear and extended family, a common practice of wild dogs. Around fifteen animals in one home was quite a squeeze, yet this helped shaped her into a caring and considerate person that rarely wastes anything. Traditionally, Rangi’s family speaks Swahili and practices Botswana traditions. Leaving the home as a female was highly discouraged, the idea that she would have to settle with becoming either a wife of a diamond miner ingrained in her mind. This idea changed when an investor came to the town along with a few computers to leave with the people. Her interest was peaked in the idea of dealing with technology, Rangi learning all she could with the little resources she was given. The day came when Rangi decided to leave home to continue her studies in the informational department, setting her eyes on Zootopia. She was faced with some discrimination in her university, most not expecting an animal like her to study in this kind of field. Yes, the work tended to pile on top of Rangi, she sometimes turning back to the idea of returning home, but would continue at the hopes of bringing her family another outlook on the large cities. Months of hard work paid off for Lyca, she graduating with a degree in informational technology and filling a government spot in Zootopia.
Currently, Rangi lives in the Botswana Heights apartments in Savannah Square. The small living quarters sometimes bother her, finding the place awfully empty compared to her previous home life. Like many residents of the city, she is quite the fan of Gazelle, owning nearly any piece of clothing with her name on it in her hands. This is where most of the dent in her paycheck goes to, along with a daily cup of Snarlbucks. Rangi’s current job is ZPD’s head of IT, responsible for the information system and servers. She was directly ordered to not let Lt. Hopps into the system by Bogo, even though she questioned his motives behind his back. Her love of dance music and electronica almost had her gravitate toward Clawhauser, the two of them being quite close as friends. Outside of work, they usually meet for a day on the town, either going through Saraha Square to maybe catch a glimpse of Gazelle, or simply having a cup of coffee at Snarlbucks. She sees Judy as another testament for hard work and putting your mind to things, finding her quite the lively person to be around that just picks the mood up. Rangi would consider herself more neutrally aligned with Bellewether, the sheep opposing the wild dog’s admittance to the police council, questioning if, “This kind of animal would be okay for the job.” At one point in time, the two species had a more direct predator-prey relationship. Even if Rangi clearly stated that she prefered tofu and soy over sheep, Bellewether found herself uncomfortable around Lyca.
Other Facts
--tends to always wear some kind of earring, switching betweens simple studs to elaborate hoops
--likes to eat tofu and soy substitutes for zebra, impala, and gazelle
--frequent snarlbucks visitor, orders a vanilla bean raspberry frappuccino
--has a notch in her left ear from a tag that was required of the university ( a primarily prey place, said it was “for precautions” )
--hearing is higher than nicks, slightly below judy’s. has an excellent sense of smell
--around 20 direct family members, living at the previous home of rangi
Relations
Whistler Mackenzie: is a main encourager against those who went against his decision. Although he may be a wolf, Rangi sees him as something that could be eventually a spearhead for change, making those begin to think twice a little more about their stereotypes that were put upon canid predators.

An interesting character all around. Now that I think of it, I don't
see a lot of characters who live somewhere that far from where they
grew up. |

Thank you, I wanted to elaborate more on the sketches of the AWDs in
the art book, so that's where I got little Rangi's idea from. I saw that and found that to be an interesting element. I would have loved to see that put into the movie somehow ;w; |

Nice! And I like the art! A great story to go with her too! (Did you know that the "Official Zootopia Handbook" features an add for "PUPS", the "Parcel United Packaging Services" (which is a play on "UPS", the real "United Parcel Service")? The PUPS driver they show is an African Wild Dog, just like your character. Heh heh. |
