The good captain hails from some unspecified point in the future (possibly around sixty-five million years from now, as he calls the 21st century “the middle future”) when the galaxy is in a state of interplanetary peace. In the midst of that backdrop he made a fortune off of his mind-building “Brain Grain” breakfast cereal, then turned to philanthropy in order to share his considerable wealth. With his time-traveling spaceship and the help of his alien sidekick Vorb, he recruits Rex, Elsa, Woog, and Dweeb to grant one of the most-voiced wishes of the children on present-day earth: dinosaurs.
Family: Although he behaves in a very grandfatherly manner to just about everyone, Captain Neweyes' only known relative is his brother, Professor Screweyes. Due to their differing philosophies - Screweyes favoring chaos and fear while Neweyes nurtures goodness and hope - the two of them have a very troubled relationship. The exact dynamics of it are unknown, save that Screweyes readily snatches an opportunity to twist his brother's good intentions and hints that Neweyes has interefered with his antics in the past. However, while Neweyes clearly dislikes his brother's leanings, he apparently chooses not to stop him directly – seeking instead to try to overcome evil with good. No doubt he wishes the professor would change his ways and learn to see life through new eyes.
Captain Neweyes does not appear in the book.
