Larkspur is a dedicated young rabbit who would do anything to protect his warren.Handsome and strong,Larkspur often finds himself unintentionally luring the sighs of young does,and at the same time annoying some (e.g. Nettle).He is on a good way to become an Owsla member,and maybe even the Chief Rabbit.

History

Before Hyzenthlay became Hazel's mate,she had her first litter of kits,which Bigwig fathered.Larkspur was among them,one of the bigger and stronger ones.He spent a happy younghood playing with his friends,among them the visionare Threar,son of Fiver,the brother of Chief Rabbit Hazel.

When Larkspur and his siblings grew enough to care for themselves,their mother Hyzenthlay found another mate,their very own Chief Rabbit,Hazel.Larkspur,who was very bonded with his father Bigwig,was shocked and immediately developed hatred feelings for Hazel.Bigwig told him not to care,he and Hyzenthlay had no more feelings for each other,the only thing that bonded them were their kits.This calmed Larkspur a little,but he still couldn't stop disliking Hazel.

As a young buck,Larkspur was a dedicated and loyal member of Watership Down,encouraged by his father to join the Owsla.However,he was not very interested in it.He prefered running on the hill or going on silflay with his friends.He would often sleep in the bushes or tree roots,not in the warren where he was haunted by does who only saw his good looks,not even trying to understand his needs to sometimes be only with Threar and Bluebell,his best friends which he trusted with his life.

Among the rabbits which disliked Larkspur,mostly because he had a habit of commanding the youngers of himself,was Nettle, a doe with a sharp tounge and fiery temperament.Larkspur never accually knew why Nettle disliked him,nor he was interested in.Their hate was mutual.

Things changed one time when Larkspur was on one of his wanderings.He spotted Nettle in the hands of some humans,wiggling and trying to escape.Larkspur reacted immediately,throwing himself at the humans and biting them.Nettle fell out of their hands,and went for a wild run back to the warren,but Larkspur was captured.

Terrifyed and scared,Larkspur was put in a cage and taken in a hrududu to Nuthanger farm,becoming a pet to Lucy,the same girl who once owned Clover.It is unnecessarily to say how Larkspur was unhappy to be closed in a cage,without the wind to flutter in his fur or sun to shine on him.Although he had company,tame rabbits named Laurel and Magpie,he felt lonelier than ever.

His salvation came in the form of Clover,who occasionally visited her old friend Laurel.Clover ran back to Watership Down,bringing help: Hazel,Bigwig,and Nettle.Nettle was,strangely,reliefed to see Larkspur,owing him for his salvation.With a lot of hard work and hiding,Larkspur was saved,and brought home to Watership Down.He no longer hated Hazel,but thanked him for playing a key role in liberating him.He remained loyal to Hazel and established a new type of contributing to his warren : anisth Owsla (wind Owsla),a group of small,lithe rabbits responsible for the safety of the warren above ground,something similar to Efrafan patrol,only less cruel.

After his captivity in the Nuthanger farm,Larkspur had a new way of looking the world.The does that he formerly thought as a nuisance were now possible mates,somebody to whom he could express his thoughts and problems,not only as in breeding purposes.He tried to get along with many of them,but none of them had the understanding for him.They still looked at him just as a strong buck.

He found his love in Nettle,the doe he used to hate,but after saving her,his dear and loyal friend.Only Nettle could see the insecureness behind his words,and his need to be free above ground.Nettle never tried to contain him,but she became his most loyal companion and the mother of his kits.

Larkspur,like Hazel,was called to join El-ahrairah's Owsla in his elderly days.
