Mental

Personality: Arkose’s personality is one that grew – he started out ambitious and generally very selfish. He was bullied some over his ‘mane’ and as he grew, he fought and proved strong. But at his peaceful warren it wasn’t appreciated, and he left for Darkhaven. He grew cold and withdrawn, scornful toward others. Arkose was extremely stubborn, and didn’t really care about anything and did his job well – when Granite ordered a rabbit killed, they were dead. When prisoners were brought, Arkose kept them, and when they attempted escape, they oftener than not got a leg broken for their trouble – which was bad news in the battle pit. He never thought his job glorious; rather, something someone had to do and it held him comfortably in the higher parts of the ranks. And for the most part, no one wanted to bully him. As time went on, though, around the same time as when Campion and Blackberry were brought in, he met a doe who’d been taken prisoner. She was very different from anyone he’d met, and soon she began to change him. His tolerance for needless violence became increasingly lower, and he didn’t act as harshly to his prisoners as he had. After the Black Rabbit rejected the ‘misled’ Darkhaveners from the battle, he was taken in by Watership Down. He was still very cold and stubborn, but made no attempt to hide his admirations toward Holly and Bigwig.
Likes: Being comfortable, judging others a bit, being in control
Dislikes: Being picked on(Often fights back), hurting others too bad
Fears: Very little – but of course prefers not to interfere with the dealings of the elil
Goals: Settle down, maybe even find a doe – build a new warren if he doesn’t fit in on Watership Down, even

Strengths:
Powerful: Very muscular and heavy – has a one-up in battle for that reason, especially in the runs.
Indifferent: Arkose cares little for most other rabbits. As a result, he generally has no trouble leaving them behind to save his own skin.

Weaknesses:
Overheat: With the thick fur he has, Arkose takes the heat even worse than other rabbits. He is generally rendered helpless in extreme heat.
Slow: While Arkose is rather strong, his weight makes him not quite as light on his feet. He doesn’t do battle as well against quick rabbits in an open area for that reason, and must overpower them with his weight alone.
Indifferent: Though it can save his life, it drives others away that he generally doesn’t care about the well-being of others. It also will make it harder for Arkose to come by a doe later.

History:
Arkose was born in a warren a ways off from Darkhaven. He had a loving mother – a partially domestic doe – and a strong bloodline on his father’s side. Four littermates, all does, and a safe place to live. No rabbit could have asked for more.
Well, no rabbit except Arkose.
He was teased by some of the other buck kits when he immerged from the burrow – no such thing occurred with his sisters, of course – and he soon learned how to fight from that. He didn’t mind the bucks – soon enough, actually, they came to admire his growing strength. He was a rabbit to be reckoned with, even fairly young. Before long, a young doe of a few months younger than him actually came to admire Arkose, even if he had something of a bad attitude and a troubling apathy toward her. All the same, though, Arkose wasn’t all that happy. He was restless to leave the warren, to get out on his own. So, that’s what he did – he left at the age of nine months old, a decent age it was.
He heard of Darkhaven from a passing hare, and he told Arkose about the hierarchy. The young buck assumed that the level of strength the rabbits there possessed was much the same as that which he came from – so off he set for Darkhaven, aspiring to take up at least Captain of the Owsla, possibly even the chief position itself. When he got there, however, Arkose found this was not the case. Rather, these rabbits were very powerful – a little over half were weaker than him, but the other half was definitely not. Arkose was overwhelmed by just how warrior-oriented the culture of the warren was.
He was taken in as a prisoner at first, to battle for his right to live as any rabbit would. He had been treated very poorly by the then-current prison guard, a bulky rabbit called Liverwort who often kicked at Arkose when the buck didn’t answer about where he came from and, in fact, Arkose had forgotten the way home – as he had gotten lost after a hot pursuit by a fox. His inability to answer, though, didn’t stop the brute. And when it came time for Arkose to join a rabbit in the battle pit, he chose that very buck. It was by luck that he managed to beat the prison-guard, as Liverwort was a bit more powerful than Arkose, but it was an injury he’d sustained the day before that allowed Arkose to win. Liverwort had pulled a muscle in a hind leg, and though Arkose didn’t know about it going into the battle(and it took him a good while to see the slight limp), Arkose managed to defeat the guard by that injury alone.
After that, Arkose took his rank. He was at first tested by some of the lower rabbits, as well as some of the higher-ups, but in this strange warren he had mistakenly fallen into, Arkose was determined to stay exactly where he was and fall no lower. As it turned out, the position he’d landed himself in was in such a place that his higher-ups felt confident and had no need to bully or harass. Spartina was one of them. She often brought him outsiders or else, other Darkhaveners – some for keeping, others for interrogation. At first Arkose was miffed, feeling a bit jilted that he’d be taking orders from a doe, but soon got used to it.
Eventually, though, there came a doe from outside who he had no knowledge of. In fact, he would never learn that it was the doe who once had a crush on Arkose long ago, who had developed into a fine doe of a lean, strong build. She recognized Arkose, who had remained greatly unchanged since she last saw him, but she did not let that show. She spoke to him anyway, just to keep her company – she was forced to encourage Arkose to speak to her. Crocus was her name, though she never told it to Arkose as it would betray her identity. As they talked, Arkose soon found that he was starting to warm up some, and his tolerance for punishment lessened. At one point in an interrogation, he even let himself get scratched by the prisoner.
Soon came the time that Crocus would go into the battle pit. Arkose was even inclined to volunteer to fight her, and possibly give up his cherished place in the hierarchy – but he was not able to, as Crocus was taken on by one of the slightly lower level bucks: Crowfoot. He killed her in the pit after a great amount of torment. Arkose later ended up killing the buck in rage, though no proof was ever brought against him – possibly due to the help of Spartina, who later, of course, used it to get his help. Not much is to be said of that particular incident.
When Woundwort finally returned to Darkhaven, and attacked Watership Down. After the magic was used against them, many Darkhaveners got spat back out by the Black Rabbit, as they were less ‘evil’ than misled, and simply doing what was required of them. Arkose was one of them.
He soon met Blackberry and Campion, but hardly recognized them – most prisoners tended to run together in his mind, excepting a select few such as Crocus. Arkose began trying to settle down at Watership Down, but hardly knows whether such efforts will be successful.
