You quickly fill your burlap sack and sling it over your shoulder. “C’mon, Kit-boy. Wait’ll Becky gets a load of these beauties. Richville here we come! Woo-hoo!” Kit also shoulders his sack. The two of you make your way carefully up the slippery, precarious incline. After what seems like an eternity, you make it out of the small side tunnel. You check to make sure that the lions are nowhere to be found. You listen for a long time for the sound of voices or the patter of not so little feet. All is silent. You pop back out of the secondary tunnel. Kit pushes first one, then the second sack of diamonds out of the tunnel before crawling out himself. You creep through the main tunnel and back outside. You take a deep breath of the cool, clean mountain air. “Ah, smell that freedom!” Kit grins at you. He, too, is excited about your future life. “Smells great, Papa Bear!” The snowmobiles belonging to the lions are gone. You spy their tracks leading back to Point Blanc. Spying a nearby pine tree, you rip off some bark to make a makeshift sled with a piece of doubled over fishing line for a handle. You pile the bulging sacks on the sled. You and Kit take turns pulling your treasure to Point Blanc where you call Rebecca to gloat. The End |
