Ever since I first watched the Gummi Bears, I had a question that is still unsolved...
How are the Gummi Bears related? They know each other well, they act "like" a family, and yet they don't seem related by blood. It's a strange thing to me...
We know from the series that they were separated from the Great Gummies long ago, so then why aren't they more numerous? Which automatically asks the question... well, how do they reproduce? lol

Here's how I saw the Gummi Bears, before the possibility of none of them being related came up.
(Most Gummi bear names ends with an I instead of a Y)
Grammi and Zummi - old married couple, grandparents of Sunni and Cubbi
Sunni and Cubbi - sister and little brother
Tummi - a cousin to Sunni and Cubbi
Gruffi - Somehow, I always saw him as an uncle figure to all the younger Gummis
It is possible that none of these Gummis are related, that they each have families of their own among the Great Gummi
But here's the big question for me: If there are children amongst the Great Gummis oversea, why were Sunni, Cubbi and Tummi left at Gummi Glen? Assuming they're underage. If there aren't any kids among them, then it would be easy to assume that they were left to Gummi Glen for their safety.
If it turns out that none of these bears are related by blood, I wish they made a different ending to the series, that shows each of them reunited with their families after years of being apart.
But even if they're not related, they're still family. They look out for one another and help each other out. They're friends for life, through thick and thin, just like families are supposed to be.
It seems that Jymn like making a whole family out of people who came from a broken family, or family that had departed from this life.
Think of how he brought the Higher for Hire crew together, they seemed like family, yet none are related to each other. Kit and Molly acts like siblings, looking at Baloo and Rebecca as their parents and Wildcat as their fun-loving, lay-back uncle.
In Goof Troop, Goofy and Max seems to have adopted their next door neighbors as their family, Max and PJ are always acting like brothers and Max even treats PJ's little sister like his own.
And now this, Gummi Bears. As I said before, I always saw Grammi and Zummi as an old married couple, but as for the rest of them, it's possible they have families oversea.

True, Baloo mentions his dad and Kit may make references too old
family. Heck when I was a kid I thought they were father and son. |

I know, but in TaleSpin the situation is clear : Molly and Rebecca are
related (mother/child), the others aren't. And it's obvious that Baloo
and Kit had parents, even if we don't see / hear about them. Can't say the same for the Gummies. I haven't watched all of the Gummi Bears episodes yet, but so far, the only hint I've seen is that Grammy and Zummy were childhood friends and have a similar age. (so, they don't seem to be related) On my first watches I really thought all of the Gummies were related by blood, but actually, it seems none of them are? |
