Hello!
Mr. Magon can you remember most of the episodes that were banned? I know Flying Dupes was one.

Okay; let's sort this out....
Last Horizons and Flying Dupes sound about right; but that only applies to the Disney Afternoon and in Flying Dupes; Toon Disney eras. Independent US syndies and most international versions played Flying Dupes and China didn't play Last Horizons at all for obvious reasons. Last Horizons is available on DVD; Flying Dupes isn't.
Her Chance to Dream: It didn't play on Family Channel Canada at all; but no reason was ever given. It did play on CBC French stations as Looping. Some syndies (I'm guessing the south and midwestern syndies) did blackball the episode for a while due to the finish as apparently the religious themes were over the top and in hindsight; Rebecca basically killed William Stansbury; at least in spirit. Although the alternative finish would have been a lot worse and equal to suicide. Even worse; the love with the ghost theme was one step closer to Necrophilla.
A Baloo Switcheroo: Black balled in some syndies (same places I'm guessing) due to New Age Themes. Kit also took God's name in vain for real and not the usual oh my gosh type either. Strangely enough; Toon Disney cut the sword pointing of Professor O'Bowens by Don Karnage twice and yet failed to cut out the shot of the sword going into the pocket socket which is more dangerous and easier to mimic by children. I have a UK cut from 1990 that has this shot removed; but the pointing at O'Bowens is intact.
One more episode: Vowel Play only played in English speaking countries due to the sky writing angle. Nothing objectionable; just laziness to translate the sky writing.

I can say that in Russia were played all 65 TaleSpin episodes,
including English-writing "Wovel Play". Our audience is more tolerant
for foreign stuff. Since Soviet times we never adapted foreign movies
to show characters as "domestic" ones, like it is often made in USA. |

Well, Flying Dupes is the only "really" banned episode. (I think it
aired only one or two times in the USA) The other was Last Horizons,
but this was a temporary ban (and it was included in the second DVD
set) From Talespin HQ : http://www.talespinhq.com/Tv/banned.htm "Last horizons was banned due to supposedly sterotyping pandas (?!) but, fortunatly, the ban didn't last long and this episode was eventually re-aired. Flying Dupes was aired for the first (and only) time on August 8th, 1990. It was banned, and hence never re-aired, due to it's terriost theme - basically, the synopsis of the episode consists of Baloo having to deliver a box to the Themrian High Marshall. Little does Baloo know that the box contains a bomb which was planted there by a traitor. Also, the episode 'Her Chance To Dream' was also banned (for 18 months, I believe) because there was an argument that it bordered on spiritualism and religion. Geez... It is a cartoon dammit! " |
