Zak
hello everybody :)
I've some question for, I hope you don't mind asking me them!
1) Was the Opening Theme inspired by The Jungle Book? If you're watching the series you may recognize the orchestral soundtrack from Mr. (L.) Stone which is a completely contrast to the Series Lead-In.
2) Anyway, who made the decision to include a orchestral soundtrack into the series? As far as I can think it must have something to do with Ron Jones' DuckTales Soundtrack which was much more adult-oriented as other shows these days and may had a positive effect on future projects.
3) For the most part of the show it's clear what kind of relationship Baloo and Kits have, however I still wonder what was the reason why Kit really cried in "Stormy Weather" after his famous "you're not my dad"-line. I've talked with friends about it - who watched the show on reruns or still remember the episode - and some of us suggested that Kit realized that he really accepted Baloo as his father and not just a friend, other people says that he's just disappointed with Baloo due the circumstances in the episode. Do you mind giving us a helping hand?
4) Do you ever had any plans to wrap up the missing links (like Kits past) if the series would have been renewed for more episodes?
5) What's about a comeback in comic book format? As far as everyone knows Darkwing Duck will be back this year with a new storyline after the original series. Do you have any plans for continuation as comic book?
6) Let's imagine that TaleSpin could be remaked as 2010+ animated series or feature... would you change something from the original series?
Thanks :)
Jymn Magon
1) I'd have to ask Michael & Patti Silversher, cuz my memory is fuzzy. Naturally we had 3 characters from Jungle Book... and Cape Suzette is in a tropical region. So it's not that far-fetched to think Jungle Book had some influence on the song writers. (What's funny about this is, *I'm* the one who gave them notes on this, since the Silvershers & I have had a relationship going back to the early 80's. But I can't remember what exactly I told them!)
2) The composer naturally had a different job (and style) than the song writers. And there was no soundtrack released... not officially. The composer, Chris Stone, released that on his own as a promo piece.
3) Sheesh. I can't remember. If I saw the episode again I could tell you, but I don't remember right now.
4) Hell, if Disney picked up the show again (with me in charge again), I'd reveal every single missing detail and MORE! But we know THAT'S not gonna happen.
5) I have no control over BOOM! comic books & their plans.
6) Frankly, no, I wouldn't change anything. The sweet thing about cartoon characters is that they never age. So basically we could pick up Tale Spin 20 years later and just keep rolling. Since the world is so detailed (and well-loved), why would I change anything? I'd keep the sexual tension between Baloo & Rebecca, etc, etc, etc. I love that world, and I'd dive back into in an instant (if Disney let me).

Releasing a final volume for the Disney Afternoon DVD sets is part of
"bringing the shows back". Though, it's been 3 years since the last volume was released, so it's safe to say that it's not going to happen. If they do, they will either release a complete DVD set or start all over again with new Bluray sets. But that's definitely not something that will happen soon. BTW, Toon Disney lived through almost 10 years, so it was still successful - but the fact that through the last years they aired the DA shows at hours when no one is up surely didn't help. |

The T.V. market is much different than the movie market. It's much
harder to put a show that appeals to an older community on T.V. mainly
because they are an older audience. Besides Disney has shown their
intrest in the old shows with the now defunct Toon Disney, apparently
they didn't like the number of viewers they were getting. Instead of wondering whether or not they'll bring back the old shows we should instead worry about if they'll ever release the third volume of talespin. |

Fenrir => That was exactly the same for Nightmare before Christmas and
Tron. They are old and they appealed to adults. Where's the
difference? |

A problem is that many of the people asking for Disney to bring back
these old shows are out of the age range. Disney doesn't want to start
making a show that will only attract older audiences (probably because
it's harder to sell merchandise to them). An example would be
Animaniacs, the show was very popular, but it was cancelled because it
attracted too many adults and not enough children. |

Disney is a big company, so we can't say they care or not. What I know
though, is that the current folks working at Disney TV animation do
NOT care at all about the classic Disney Afternoon series, because
there's no one remaining from that period and because they want to
make original ones (I wouldn't blame them for making something
original, if only they were better and not cheap copies of what other
companies do...) On the other side, they have ALWAYS kept their classic movies "alive". Which is why I will never understand why they forgot everything about their TV series. Everyone actually forgets that what helped the most the Disney renaissance / golden age in the 90's were the TV series, which gave a good image of the company...I only hope they won't take too much time to realize that. Because they're truly missing big opportunities by not exploiting them. The only reason kids nowadays don't "care" is because they don't know them. And, I have already said it, but the comics books sales will be very important to decide the future of these classic series (even if Disney isn't behind the idea, they will still be very interested in the franchises again if they would make successful sales...) I wish they would make worlds from all the Disney Afternoon series in a Kingdom Hearts game, because that's definitely what helped The Nighmare Before Christmas and Tron to become popular (before that, only animation fans knew them; and now, guess what : there are TNBC merchandise everywhere in Disney parks, and they're planning to make a new Tron trilogy...this is NOT a coincidence!) |

JerRocks2day, Disney DOES care for TaleSpin, ask Kit_Lee on
Cloudkicker Message Board, he'll tell you. They still have the
TaleSpin costumes for greeting characters and he's hoping to be Kit,
obviously. It is the kids of today that don't care or know about TaleSpin, not Disney. It seemed that Disney only see bringing back the old cartoons as a risky move, worried that it will attract little or no attention or interest from the kids. Disney is playing it safe, first bringing back all the old animated classic movies, such as Snow White, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella on DVD to see if people wants them and now they're bringing back DuckTales and Darkwing Duck in comic books to see if people wants them and judging by how many they can sell, they may consider bringing them back to television. |
