Post-summer Movie Preview

Written by SkulShurtugalTCG :

The summer holidays are almost over (for some of you, they ARE over), but that doesn't mean that animated films are coming to a halt. In fact, some might say that the best films of 2011 are yet to come!

FilmFirst of all, the news that I think a lot of you will find the most interesting: on September 16, for a limited 2-week run, Disney is re-releasing The Lion King in theaters, in 3D! This means that you'll be able to not only see it on the big screen, but with new 3D technology. While opinions on this range from terrific to negative (one newspaper called it "Disney's attempt at making money is getting worse") those who have seen this film in 3D have stated that the 3D only adds to the film and is not the focus of it. There is no word on if this applies oversees, but in America at least you can expect to see The Lion King in 3D beginning September 16. Remember, it's only for two weeks, so see it while you can!

Next up on the list is Puss in Boots, a spin-off/prequel to the Shrek films that features on secondary character Puss. The film follows this boot-wearing cat and his adventures as a self-declared "Ogre-killer", and mostly revolved around what happens to him before the events of Shrek 2. It's Dreamworks' third film this year, and if you want to see it, it comes out November 4 worldwide.

A little further down the line is Happy Feet Two, the sequel to the 2006 winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Film. This film follows Mumble and his son Erik; this time around, it's Erik who has a problem, only now it's because he can't dance. (Seems ironic, that his dad couldn't sing and he couldn't dance.) It premieres November 18 in the US and November 16 in Australia.

FilmsThe week after that, Arthur Christmas comes to theaters. Those of you who saw Tangled probably remember seeing a trailer for this film. It is about Santa Claus's son Arthur, who is given a mission that must be completed by Christmas morning. Not much about this film has been revealed, but it comes out November 23 in the US; for those of you in England, you get it on November 11. (Lucky!)

And last on the list is The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. This marks Steven Spielberg's return to animation (one of his last films was Balto), and uses motion-capture technology to tell the story based on the book of the same name. If you're not really that big into motion-capture films, that's okay; this film looks to be terrific. Be careful, though; this film could receive a PG-13 rating in the US/12A in the United Kingdom.

As far as is known, these are the films that will be shown between now and the end of 2011. What are your thoughts on this?

Patrick, making a 3D version of a pre-existing film costs WAY less than making a whole new film. And almost no marketing necessary, because it's a film that everyone knows already.

Besides, Disney has stopped the DTV sequels production. And they stopped doing hand drawn animation (pretty much)
To be honest, many people complained about these cheap sequels, but I've never been a part of them...At least that was the last way to see some hand drawn Disney...

I will buy the Lion King, in 3D when it comes to Denmark. No doubts!
But what I don't undestand is that Disney can make The Lion King, in 3D, but why don't they make a Lion King 4?
I believe it would give them soooo much more money. :(
And so many fans more happy.

Seen the Lion king 3D at the Edinburgh festival, in June. As a person who can't normally distinguish 3D in the cinema, I was actually impressed. Disney have done a fantastic job. Well worth it.

UK release is 1st October. DVD being released on the 15th after the 2 week run.

My god, why do they gotta make movies in 3D these days? Ive seen a movie in 3D before, and let me tell you, that ruined the movie. It will make Lion King worse, I can tell.

Rainbow: WIN! My cousin, her friend and I wasted 50$ some dollars to see Cats and Dogs 2: The revenge of Kittygalore in 3D last July. I didn't see what was 3D about it at all...I ended up taking the glasses off and just watched it; it looked EXACTLY the same without glasses... I even asked my cousin after the movie if she thought it was 3D, she said no. Believe me, we were in the right room, so it wasn't that we made a mistake.

Like I said before, 3D was better 10 years ago. You actually was watching the movie in 3D with REAL blue red glasses. And not EVERY movie that came out was released in 3D, unlike now.

Who knocks at the garden gate?
I think the whole 3D thing is pretty dumb, but if Lion King is in theaters again, totally going to see it. My sis wants to see it too, and my dad also. He doesn't wanna go by himself so he's taking us :)

As for Happy Feet. First of all I don't think it needed a sequel. Second, the movie seems like a repeat of the first. Though I have to admit, Erik IS adorable!

Althought I like 'The lion king', I'm not THAT intrested to see it in 3D. What's with 3D anyway? I've seen a 3D film once to find out it hardly had any 3D parts in it. Most of it was 2D. It just drains all the money from you. It's useless.

The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie, same with several friends of mine at school. I can definitely see a group for the movies arranged soon.

I'm not thrilled to know that Lionking is going to made into 3D; I don't like movies that are made into 3D. 3D is just a sudden thing that everyone is into, and companies use this to lure people in to make money. Since a lot of movies anymore don't make any money, they re-release old movies that were successful into 3D. Or even new movies are released in 3D, take the TinTin poster for example... 3D was cool like 10 years ago because not EVERY movie that came out back then was released in 3D.

The Lion King is my favorite animated Disney movie, so I will definitely see that in 3D! And I love Happy Feet, but I'm not sure it needed a sequel.

When I was little, Lion King was my favorite movie, period. As soon as we finished watching it, we popped it right back in and watched it again, and again and again just because I liked it so much. I knew all of the words by heart, wanted all of the toys, everything. Now, I'm so excited because little kids who were born in the past three years and haven't gotten to see possibly the best animated film ever get a chance to re-see it, and everyone's reminded of how great Disney was.

I'm pissed off that Happy Feet is getting a sequel. I'm even more irked that it won a freaking Academy Award. It is a shitty movie and I don't get what's so cute about it. UGH. Makes me want to go nuke the penguins.

I am most definitely excited to see The Lion King in 3D. The Lion King is my favorite movie of all time, and I can't wait to see how the 3D adds to the movie.

TLK 3D!
Oh yush
As for TinTin, I seriously hop they don't mess it up... Secret of the Unicorn was one of my favourites, I would hate to see people saying that TinTin is stupid because they've seen the movie *that may or may not be bad*.

I love the Shrek series, so I've gotta love Puss In Boots! Also, I might go and see The Lion King in 3D! Even though I have The Lion King. I've gotta see it in 3D!
