EDIT on August 2012 : Looking back at this, I obviously overreacted, due to the disappointment. It appears we'll probably never know the "real" reason behind the cancellation and various problems of the Disney / Boom Studios comics.
Newsflash : TaleSpin is NOT A DISNEY AFTERNOON PROPERTY!!!

http://forums.boom-studios.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2509
What could appear to be a joke, is unfortunately the horrible truth : Disney considers TaleSpin as an entirely separate licence. So yes, forget the fact that TaleSpin was the FIRST show CREATED FOR the Disney Afternoon. Disney wants to "rewrite history" (woo-hoo! or not)
What does this mean? Boom Studios will NOT be able to publish any TaleSpin comics, as they "only" own the Disney Afternoon licence. And it will most likely be the same for any company which gets the DA licence in the future.
So yes, Disney is basically KILLING TaleSpin THEMSELVES. We all thought the issue with TaleSpin was due to the lawsuit with Louie's voice, well we were wrong : the issue is from the inside.
ANY TaleSpin fan KNOWS that TaleSpin is NOT a Jungle Book spinoff. Clearly the people who decided this didn't actually watch the show. Or they want to force third parties to buy another licence just to make more money. In any case, there is no valid reason.
Why isn't CHIP'N DALE Rescue Rangers considered as a separate licence, with both characters coming from the Classics? Same question for Ducktales, which characters come from the Comics and which even got a Movie.
It seems TaleSpin is not the only series to suffer from licencing problems : no vynilmations of "Gummi Bears" will be produced, and the CEO of Boom Studios said it was a separate licence too. But the reason seems different (and more justified) : it seems the channel that used to air the show still has some rights onto it. At least it's not Disney THEMSELVES who are blocking out...
This isn't the first time a publisher encounters a problem with Disney licencing. SLG publishing published Gargoyles comics a few years ago, and had to stop when they needed to renew the licence, because Disney suddenly realized it was much more popular than they thought and raised the licence fees in a huge proportion (One has to wonder what was the benefit, since they had to STOP exploiting the licence?) I wouldn't be surprised if Gargoyles was also considered a separate licence.
I really hope the Disney folks gets to know how much all this is ultimately hurting the fans - their customers, the people who are more than ready to spend precious money on the best properties they have. What's the point of owning an amazing licence and never using it?
Ok, I'll be positive for a change: now that we've reached the far bottom, things can only get better, don't you think?
I also hope for a big misunderstanding. As much as the general opinion on Disney TV animation is bad nowadays, I think there are some great folks at Disney and I never expected them to do us such a crass. Am I over-reacting? Currently, I don't think so. Anyone from Disney, if you read this...please clarify this! Help us! I have faith in you. I know you can correct this mistake.
On a slightly brighter note, the TaleSpin vinylmation set released yesturday, completely sold out in 6 hours! (there were 1000 units total) At least this is a sign that the show is STILL very popular.
Also, all this makes me want to help on the Virtual Season project more than ever. I already stated I was practicing so that I can actually draw some of our fan comic. If you want to help us, check the forums!!! We can do it!

If you have no creative skills, don't despair! You can help with rounding up screen shots of key elements from the show as well as character information for the eventual reproduction of the shows Character Bible. If you are interested in helping with screen caps or the Character Bible, PM me and keep your eyes on the forums posts I make.
Disney and BOOM comics -want- you to give up. Tale Spin is a property that the MOU$E doesn't care to make money off of any longer. BOOM doesn't have the gall to attempt work without an air tight Intellectual Property License. Neither wants to hear from you anymore, but don't stop shouting! GET. ACTIVE! More information about what you can do for Tale Spin will be available in the Forums under the Virtual Season Tab.
Baloo, Kit, Rebecca, Molly, Wildcat, the Air Pirates, Khan Industries, Thembria and all the rest are counting on -you-.
Not fair. It clearly is the most overlooked Disney series of all time. And it seems it will be like that till the end of time.

BUT THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! WE GAVE TALESPIN OUR SUPPORT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND NOW DISNEY SNATCHED IT AWAY FROM US LIKE STEALING OUR CANDIES!
I'm also furious with China too, for their government treating their people so horribly

Oh and here’s a fun fact, is the Disney parks, during the time of these shows airing, they had a live shows with each connected shows of the Disney afternoon, I know of three, one of them being called "Plane Crazy" kind of badly written, but it was still funny to watch on youtube. Each and everyone of these live shows had Talespin in them, not like a banner or anything, but two of the characters from the show, entertaining the audience.
So back then it was an afternoon show, but now it isn't. Just like when Disney started they actually cared about making good quality programming and now their money grubbing, how can we squeeze another dollar out of these people, Fat-cats... Wait that's the answer QUICK SOME ONE CALL CHIP AND DALE!
P.S.
you know for a company with a giant mouse as their iconic symbol, you would think they might be looking out for the little guy. Or did I miss it when Mickey mouse turned into a rat?
