More messing around with opacity for more convincing lighting, and I brought down the opacity of my lines as well and I think it looks much neater than just stark black lines.
It's Phoenix sounding the alarm to his band to get away from the wranglers. Unfortunately, they're pretty well trapped in the basin when the cowboys come galloping up, so his shouting at them turns out to be useless.
