Me and Legend were such a couple! We trotted through the forest, taking a break from the lakota village, but there was something in the back of my mind. Legend was a cavalry horse, and he was gonna have to go back to the fort at one point. But when? I didn't want him to leave me. But there was new things on my mind. The Lakota's are at war with the Cheyenne, and there was one stallion, that I had loathed. This is how we met.

I was walking through the forest on my own (Legend was asleep in the paddock back at the lakota village) and I heard a noise. It was like a chuckle, almost. I stopped, looking around cautiously. A black stallion with a blaze walked out in front of me. He was taller than most of the horses in the village. I could see a cheeky glint in his eyes and began walking away.

"Exactly where do you think YOU are going missy?" I looked around and snorted, bolting off. He chased after me, and to my disgust, attempted to mate with me. I bolted on, my eyes fixed on the village, about a quarter of a mile away. I didn't think I would make it, but I saw the faint outline of Legend, asleep in the paddock, and that assured me. I reached the village and ran up to Little Creek. The stallion shied away.

That memory still haunts me. I never told Legend, but he was going to find out sooner or later, since that stallion, is the main horse at the Cheyenne. And I was going to battle, against him. I became reluctant about going to my first battle, and became even more unsure when I found out Legend was staying here. I took a deep breath and walked to him, telling him about the stallion, what had happened, and what was going to happen. He was shocked, but sighed and nodded.

The day of the battle came upon us. We left at an early time in the morning. I kissed Legend goodbye then we set off to the battlefield. My heart was pounding. Soon, we reached a small trail, following it, we came out to a large space. The ground was soil and dirt, and blood was about to be spilled. The Cheyenne were waiting on the other side, the stallion at front. He saw me and an evil smirk crossed his face. I gulped. We jumped into action.

The battle lasted 3 days. Most of us were killed, only 20-30 survivors. The Cheyenne retreated, becuase 'They were running out of food'. I began to set for home. We managed to get there just before starvation, but all that was on my mind was Legend. He saw me and was almost in tears

"I thought you were dead" he smiled.

"I know you did, but I'm not"  I returned his smile, leaning in to nuzzle him. We both nuzzled romantically. "Legend, can I ask you something?"

"Anything"

"Do you want foals?" Legends eyes lit up. It was either in horror or in happiness. I bit my bottom lip.

"I do, but only with you" He smiled

"Good. It's almost spring" I didn't need to say anymore. He got the hint "lets find somewhere a bit more private." So we went into a cosy little cave.

That next morning, I lay in the cave. Sweat covered my body, and I could feel Legend's warmth next to me. He was awake, i could tell. "Morning sweetie" He said with a warm grin

"Good morning" I replied, getting up. "Lets go wash ourselves down." I trotted to the nearby lake and trotted in, kicking my legs with effort to keep myself floating. Legend followed me, kicking effortlessly. I smiled and swam around him. Once we were finished, we swam to the bank. I shook myself, accidentaly sending droplets of water all over Legend. I giggled "Sorry"

"It's okay" he said with a grin. We returned to the lakota village. I yawned, inhaling deeply, taking in the smells of smoke from the small man made fires dotted around the village. I began to go in and out of them. Two pups ran through my legs, followed by a laughing young boy. I chuckled and walked over to Little Creek. He patted my neck and led us to the paddock. I snorted and began to graze. I felt a sudden jolt. Was that inside of me? Already? But it's way to early. Legend could see something was wrong. "Val? Are you alright?" I nodded

"Yeah, but I think..no it can't be" Legend's jaw dropped

"You're pregnant? Already?"

"I think so," I said, a teensy bit worried. A smile wiped across Legend's face.

"Well that's a good thing, isn't it?"

"It is indeed" I smiled. Little Creek seemed to notice and dropped the small bowl of red paint and ran into the village. Legend let out a small chuckle.

"I think he can see that" I nodded

"Yep" Soon he returned with one of the spiritual woman. She kneeled down next to me and felt my belly. A few minutes later, she turned to him and nods. I'm pregnant. I felt so overjoyed. I was going to have Legend's foal. Legend smiled. So did I. Little Creek gasped, but then smiled too. We were all happy. He returned into the village with the woman. Within minutes, the mares were all running over to the paddock asking questions.

"Are they Legends?" One asked

"When did that happen?" asked another. So many questions. I was glad when Legend cut them off

"Yes they are mine, it happened last night, we don't know anything more" He warded off the mares so we were alone finally.

Months passed and my belly grew bigger and bigger! I was told it was due in less than a week, and I was getting worried. Finally, the day came. Little Creek didn't want it born in the village, he wanted me to do it myself, and not people crowding me. Just what I wanted. Me and Legend took a hike to the cave. It was even harder, since I was carrying the foal. We got there at last, I walked in, Legend waited outside. I lay down, and closed my eyes. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and soon it was pouring with rain. I could hear Legend pacing outside. His soft hoofbeats calmed me down. 20 minutes later, I was nursing a beautiful white filly. I told Legend to go back to the trie. Reluctantly, he left. As night fell, the storm got worse. Every zap of lightning, the filly bolted to the back of the cave. I got up and followed her. Soon we were both asleep.

The next morning, the sun was shining. The filly got up and bounded outside. I stayed in the cave for a few minutes, thwen myself walked outside. Morning dew filled the air, and the birds song chirped away happily. I smiled, feeling the crisp morning air pass through my maen. The filly was sitting on the grass. I nudged her up and took her back to the village. She ran ahead. I could see Legend talking to one of his friends, a silver bay stallion, looking very worried. The filly was still bouncing on.

"Careful not to-" she tripped over a large tree root growing out of the ground "-trip" I giggled. She bumped into Legends back legs. He jumped, and turned his head to look at his daughter for the very first time.
