Eve
Chapter 1
A white mare whinnied in pain in the tall grass of the plains, her breathing labor, he legs kicking. The mare exhaled loudly, a shinning black foal laying in the grass behind her. The foal was all black, but one mark on her shoulder, which looked like a scar.
Eves eyes fluttered open to a white face that was her mother. Eve shook her head, her ears flapping wildly. She snorted as she felt her mothers warm breath on her neck. Eve turned her head to see a large buckskin that was her father. She felt him breath in-and-out on her back. The buckskin snorted then took a few steps back. Her mother snorted also then scrambled up to stand beside the buckskin. Eve tried to stand as she mother moved behind her. Her mother bite Eves hindquarters hard, and this was no friendly nip. Eve made a desperate leap into the tall grass. Her head popped out of the grass as she peered around. Her mother raced towards her at a gallop. Eve made another leap, along with a squeal, as her mother galloped past, inches away. Eve made a shrill whinny as her father reared over her and landed on her hind legs. Eves head dropped, her eyes closed as she made soft crying noises.
The buckskin snorted, then nickered to the white mare. The white mare walked over Eve, then trotted behind the buckskin and joined the herd. The buckskin jumped around as Eve let out a shrill, painful whinny. She cried for her mother to come back. Her mother just snorted in disgust to another mare, and the herd slowly moved off.
Eve cried in the tall grass, barely visible. Eve lifted her gentle head, peering around the grass. She heard hoof beats. She didn't see a horse, but she heard one. Eve turned her head around to face a large brown stallion, his bay coat shinning in the morning light. Eve's heart raced as the stallion glared down at her, it chest swelling with each huge breath. His eyes were full of gentleness, but the moment he met eyes with Eve, that turned to hate.
The stallion got up on his hind legs in anger, letting out a piercing neigh that split the sky. Eve made a shrill whinny then scrambled along the ground, just out of reach as the stallions hooves turned up turf as he came back down to Earth. He snorted after Eve, who had gotten to her feet and was darting away, her black hide shinning in the sun. The stallion galloped after her, his hooves digging up the grass and dirt with each striking pace.
The race chased on, and when it seemed to be hours had passed, Eve finally couldn't run any longer and fell to the ground with exhaustion. The stallion stood over her, his chest swelling quickly as he breathed hard from the chase. He picked up his front hooves for a strike, but something stopped him. The wind blew his forelock out of his eyes, he breathed in, then looked towards the forest. His eyes narrowed, trying to focus on something, something lurking in the forest, deep in the shadows. The stallions hooves gently landed, then he turned and galloped away.
Eve exhaled loudly. Her breathing was quick, her coat shinning with sweat. Her eyes rolled in her head as she tried to see what was creeping towards her. Eves nostrils opened wide, catching an awful scent that made her eyes water. Her eyes rolled in her head once more and she caught a glimpse of what was coming. A large gray wolf, ready for a quick meal. Eve struggled to her feet then burst into a run, her skinny legs flashing under her small body. Mane and tail flying out behind her. The wolf didn't seem to be following her, and when Eve looked back, it had gone.
Eve slowed, suddenly feeling exhausted. She collapsed beside a tree, she coat full of sweat. The sky was quickly darkening, and Eve wanted to sleep, but was scared more things would come for her in the dark. Eves head began to droop, and her eyes began to close, next thing, she was in a deep sleep.
Chapter 2
I galloped across the plains, the wind in my face, my legs flashing underneath me. The grass was green and the flowers bloomed. Storm clouds rolled in as I slid to a halt, making marks in the earth. I stood before a huge, two-legged creature, who held a strange metal object. My heart raced as I burst into a run to get away. A loud sound, above all the noises I have ever heard, rang in my ears. I fell to the ground and my vision got black.
Eves eyes shot open, her heart racing, her coat wet with sweat. She scrambled to her feet, her legs trembling. She looked off into the distance, where she was a red-orange glow, smoke rising from it. Eves hooves danced beneath her, wanting to run away from it, but Eve forced herself to stand still. Her ears swiveled, she heard loud noises, like birds, but quick, and high pitched and loud. Eves heard hoof beats along with it, next thing she saw horses galloping towards her, the strange two-legged creatures from her dream on their backs. Eves eyes got wide and she darted away from the tree, her legs flashing under her. She burst into the woods, twigs flew, branches snapped, and leave rustled.
Soon, Eve found herself by a small lake, where the moonlight lit up the whole place casting weird shadows. Eve stared around the lake, trying to look for anything that moved. She found out she wasn't alone. Across the lake was a silhouette of another horse, not moving and not making a sound. Then the silhouette moved closer to the lake, right up to the bank. Eve watched as the horse lowered it head and drank. Eve looked confused. She lowered her head like the horse and scented the water. It was sweet in her nostrils. She stuck out her tongue, the took a lap of water. It tasted great, the best thing her ever tasted, although, that was the first thing she ever tasted.
As the sun slowly began to rise, and an orange glow lit the sky, Eve noticed it was a beautiful paint mare, and she saw a two-legged in the trees, watching. Eve heard a low sound, a whistle of a bird, but it was the human. The mare lifted her head, and looked back at the two-legged. It whistled once more and she came trotting towards him. He jumped on her back and galloped away and out of distance.
Eve left the lake and made on her way. Soon, there were no trees, just a vast prairie. Eve heard shouting again, she tried to walk away from it, but it was following her. Eve heard hoof beats and turned. Three horses with two-legged on their back galloped towards her. Eve tried to out run them, but ended up getting surrounded. Eves skinny legs shook, the men laughed. A two-legged threw up a long, snake-like thing. Eve got scared and almost backed into a horse. The thing flew threw the air and around Eves neck. She jumped to break free, but ended up choking herself. They took her away, and Eve didn't fight.
Soon, instead of grass, was sand, and trees was brush. Eve let them drag her away without a fight. She hung her head low and lonely. "Some things wrong with this horse, Tex," Whispered one of the two-legged. Another two-legged looked back at Eve, then at the other. "I agree, but we gotta take it in." One of them looked back and gave Eve a sad look, but looked ahead like nothing had happened. Eves head jerked up at the sound of a screech. A Eagle flew high above them, screeching calls below. Eve continued to walk, the eagle following.
Soon, Eves head jerked up once more, just to look at a huge wooden fort. As they neared, Eve got more scared and more scared. Eve heard loud noises, hoof beats and shouting, from inside the fort. The huge gates creaked open, and Eve saw so many things that scared her. All the two-legged and such. They pulled Eve forward. They untied her and brought her by foot. The creatures walked so odd, on two feet not four. They led Eve up to a tall man in the shade. He had long light brown hair, mustache, and wore blue. "Put it in the stables," He ordered once they came up to him.
Soon I was cowering in a cover of the stables. All the horses whinnied loudly at me. They reared over me, stomped their hooves, and did it again. "Sarge!" I heard the tall two-legged yell. "Take it out of there, put her in the corral!" Next I was in a corral, tied to a post. I stood by it, my head down, the hot sun on my back. The sun died over the horizon and night fell. I stood by the post, my head down, and fell asleep, hopping never to wake again.
