My legs felt pumped as I ran with my father Spirit, across the plain, through the woods. I ran ahead of him easily. He told me that my lack of a voice had been returned to me as great speed and endurance. We ran for a long while, until Spirit stopped running from tiredness. Spirit said it was time to go back to the herd, but I was barely breaking a sweat. I galloped all the way to the herd, but I stopped short when I saw him.Shawn, the lead taunter. The one who had broken my spirit. He had been waiting for me to get back from running with Spirit. I quietly trotted over to my mother Rain, and started grazing with her.I couldn't stand completely beside her anymore, beacause of her buldging sides. I didn't mind though, I was too excited about having a new brother or sister. At least Shawn couldn't tease me in front of Rain or he would get kicked out of the herd. Rain didn't realize I was teased so much. She didn't know why I looked down in the dumps all the time. I wish she did, or I would have a lot less problems these days.I nuzzled her, and she nuzzled me back and told me she loved me. I gave a loving look, and I knew she understood me; I could talk with my eyes to horses that knew me well. That night, I felt that something was going to happen, something horrible. My heart was pounding as if horses were galloping in it. Rain nickered to me, asking what was wrong. I gazed worriedly into her eyes. She understood and said she'd had that feeling before. She told me not to worry about it, and just go to sleep. I had a nightmare that night. In my dream, there were horses running across a plain, and two lead horses, but the horses were blackened out. They were galloping, but then they ran into a dry, wicked place. There were also strange creatures standing on two legs. And the creatures were laughing wickedly, while the horses were screaming in fear.I woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily; I could hardly breathe. Rain woke up when she heard my paniced breathing. She nickered to me, and I got up closer to her. She saw the fear in my eyes, and she gazed kindly into my eyes. I shivered from my fright, even though I was sweating to death. No matter how much I tried to sleep, my nightmare kept coming back to me, and I couldn't sleep.I was still awake by the time the sun rose that morning. My legs were shaking when I got up, and I couldn't eat anything. My thoughts took me away; I needed to find the reason to my nightmare. It was digging into my mind, and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I was walking around for no reason, and I went to the woods. Unfortunitly, Shawn had followed me, and he showed no mercy in his teasings. He called me the Silent Nothing, and he told me that I didn't belong here, where horses could make noise and talk, and that I belonged in the middle of nowhere, where no sound could be heard. That was it. I couldn't take it anymore. I high- balled to the distance. My legs were running to their limits, but then I stopped. I heard Rain neighing behind me. When she caught up with me, I told her through my eyes to go back to the herd. She shook her head, and walked with me. I didn't know where she was taking me. She was about to tell me, when a strange tight thing was thrown over my neck. My eyes were white with fear, and I wanted to neigh, but I couldn't talk. Rain was neighing franticly, and she reared around for awile, but quickly stopped, for she couldn't do as much when she was expecting. We soon were forced to follow the creatures. I realized they looked like the creatures in my dream, but they weren't the same ones. They were strange and brownish, and they were sitting on horses. I was curious about them, and I walked up to one, but Rain went in front of me. She said that she didn't want me to be domesticated to these two- leggeds. The only ones I should trust were the Lakota, preferably Little Creek, her owner. We walked farther away from the herd, and I was scared. My eyes were white with fear, and when Rain sensed it in me. She gave me one of her calming looks, and I felt a little better. I could hear neighing in the distance. It was Spirit, he was looking for us. Rain neighed out to him, but he was so far away, he couldn't hear her. I didn't want to go with these creatures, and I jerked back on the rope. I should of known he had tied it to the saddle horn, because my rope went so tight I could hardly breathe. Rain pulled it with her teeth some and it loosened. I felt so much better after that. The creatures led us to the desert, and I was reminded of Shawn. All of his teasings and taunts came to my head. They were digging in my head like my nightmare was. I wanted to go home, away from this desert, these two-leggeds, and I wanted to be galloping with Spirit, then coming back to the herd and see my younger brother or sister come into the world. I didn't want Shawn back, or the predators. It was then I realized that I had caused Rain and I to get captured. But there was nothing I could do about it. So I just went along and I hoped we would get out of wherever we were going before the foal came. When we got there, I was amazed. There were horses
