I currently use MS Paint and it works fine except that I can't add backgounds and I have problems with shadows/shading and such.  I have noticed that many people on here use GIMP or some similar program and make beautiful, realistic artwork with it.  I am thinking about downloading GIMP but am hesitating because I use a shared laptop and do not know much about GIMP at this point.  Can someone give me more info about GIMP and how it works?  I would really appreciate it.

This is not really a question for Animation Source. If you are looking for tutorials - people made a lot of Gimp/Photoshop tutorials on the forums, but if you are looking for program info & help, I suggest reading specificaly GIMP related sites and forums. I'm sure GIMP dedicated sites will give you more usefull info than people here.

Check out Val's tutorials! There is even a member known as Equitutorials! Look them up on the site, they are very helpful! If you want to know how Gimp works,..simply go to there website, make sure you are on the official one. Only download Gimp and such from the original website. Hope this helps.
