I know we’re not allowed to make or use renders from other movies/cartoons/media on Spirit Source (for example, we can’t use Silver Brumby renders for our Spirit characters) but are we still allowed to use screenshots from other movies for backgrounds?  I’m not talking about screenshots featuring characters from other franchises, but if the screenshot just shows the background, without any other characters in it, are we allowed to use that as a background for our Spirit images.

For example, there are a number of screenshots from the Brother Bear movies that don’t feature any characters, but just show the landscape.  I also use a number from The Fox and The Hound, Bambi and even the Lion King, where appropriate. I love using these alternative backgrounds, as sometimes they fit the picture much better than the Spirit screenshots. It’s also nice to have some variety and choice with backgrounds, rather than always using the ones from Spirit.

But since it is now a rule when sending images to our galleries that they can’t be renders from other media, does this now mean we’re restricted to only using backgrounds and screenshots from spirit as well?

The backgrounds from other movies are allowed. I've seen many used. As long as they don't have any of those official characters.
