The new rules says that flash creators aren't allowed, but how about those Photoshop creators?
Some PSD linearts have only premade shades/lighting and layers, but some of them are like real character creators with premade colours and patterns.
I'm talking about this one - http://konikfryzyjski.devianta [...] fryzyjski%2F37424868&qo=13
Even if character's owner proudly states thet their horse is not made with flash creator - this is still come kind of lazy character creator that doesn't require much of horse colour reseach and designing skill. I managed to re-create those characters myself with the same program. If this was the main reason that flash creators were banned - then this is nothing different.
Here's what I managed to do only with changing opacity on several layers. Not to mention you can also change colour of some patterns to your own likings - http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/3600/d568.jpg
But it's all just an advanced form of another "character maker" that doesn't require much skill and effort.
So since it's a question page, my question is - should THAT be allowed too?

My opinion? No. Flat out no.
It is still a character creator and comes with it's own coats and it's own patterns. Flash creators were banned for a reason, this is technically in a way a flash creator, a cheap way of making a character, if you will.
If they used it as a line art, that's FINE but if it wasn't and just used as a means to make a character then I think it shouldn't be allowed, it's lazy, near no effort being put into it other than a bio being made.

I say it should be allowed, I for one have hardly no time to render,
ad I normally make my own coats from that creator, like shatter, blue
roan isn't a coat on there, neither is white like Shiro, and I used it
on White Midnight because I find that I can't make coats like faded
back on gimp, not at all, but if I ever get my laptop fixed with my
rending programs I will be able to change them. |

Sadly this is just another example of the rules of this site being
incomprehensible and vague. Technically, that is not a flash player so
the person using it to make their character designs has not broken any
rules. Whether it should now be included in the flash player list is
up to the mods. What we really need is a clear, easy to find,
comprehensive list of the site rules so that ambiguities don't happen.
Even the mods don't agree between themselves about the rules on Spirit
relations/acceptable artwork/unrealistic coat patterns. And as a
result of this awkwardness, confusion and sheer frustration, many of
our best artists and character designers are being driven away from SS
to more forgivable, clear-cut places like dA. |
