I was planning to make two dog characters that one lived with the Lakotas and the other dog lived in the Cavarly base. I'm just wondering what breeds does the dog has to be to be Spirit Related.

For the Cavalry dogs I'd say some popular European working dog breeds.
"Mastiffs and other large breeds were used extensively by Spanish conquistadors against native Americans."

"Many of the dogs that were involved in the Civil War did not fight. Their jobs were more personal. Generals such as George Armstrong Custer were known to keep personal dogs with them for companionship rather than war duty."
"Dogs that were put to work were used as prison guards. These dogs topped well over 100 pounds and stood about three feet high. They were trained to take down and mutilate, or even kill, prisoners of war who tried to escape."

for Indian dogs - they came from domesticated wolves, coyotes and mixed breeds between already domesticated dogs and those two wild canines.
"Breeders of the NAID state that the Native American Indian Dog is being selectively bred to recreate the appearance and versatility of the original dogs of Native Americans."

I think some breeds those times would use would have been Mastiffs and
German Shepherds, I'm not sure, but it's a possibility |

google is your friend... neither the less the indians wouldn't have breeds, they would have been wolves (less likeley) or wild mutts the cavalry would only have breed's wich are for jobs and even then not many since they where mounted soliders after all , if they had to use ones, GS and collies are more likley or just muts |

Its real hard to be exact when it comes to things like this, so here
is what I came up with, with a little research. Indians- Caravan Hound Combai Chippiparai Rajapalayam Rampur Hound Kanni Mudhol Hound Indian Mastiff (Bulli) Calvary- Couldn't find any pacific breeds but I'm sure that the majority of what they would have had were around the hound family. Hope this helps! |
