It's generally accepted that Spirit: SoTC is set around Utah/Wyoming or North/South Dakota. N/S Dakota makes more sense to me, since that's where the Lakota people are based, as well as Colonel Custer, who 'The Colonel' was supposedly based off, but that's just me.
What I'd like to know is; are there any other Native American tribes that are indigenous to those areas? I for one am getting tired of always seeing Lakota horses around the source. I have absolutely nothing against them, and I thoroughly support the idea of having Native American horses, but it would make a nice change, as well as being more imaginative and unique, to see other tribes and peoples used. Or, are there just no other tribes that people could use for those states?
I ask because I'm not American, and therefore have very little knowledge about these things. Is there anyone around who does know about Native American tribes and could provide more information, please?

Go on and get a little adventurous -- Native American tribes did travel, whether looking for new land or visiting sister tribes. (I mean, heck, you have friends in a different city/state than what you live in... Right?) The difficulty is that many members have blinkers on when it comes to what they can create -- they mentioned the Lakota so EVERYTHING must be Lakota.
What confuses me is the "Cimarron" Territory is actually the panhandle of Oklahoma, a Cherokee area. I did some research and found these originating tribes of COLORADO: Apache, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Pueblo tribes, Shoshone tribe, and the Ute. Sometimes these groups came "in": Comanche, Kiowa, and Navajo.
Considering the Lakota was primarily within the Dakotas, I wonder if the movie was supposed to lead one to believe that it covered the area of Oklahoma, Colorado, and the Dakotas (perhaps others). It's something I never gave a lot of thought to....
