How do you create a fanfic?, and I could never write something as long and as detailed as some of the fanfics on here, I need help
Just Another Writer
I could give you a very detailed description of how I write fanfiction, step by step. But that would take way too long and it wouldn't do you much good; I don't know what your writing style is, anyway. So instead, I'll just give you some tips that help me out. You don't need to listen to me if you don't want to. After all, I suppose you would have good reason not to; I barely have any "street cred" on the site anyway. So... Listen if you want, ignore if you wish.
1) Don't just wing it and start writing. Even I have no idea how many notebooks I have bought to start stories only to barely fill the first page. Outlines are lifesavers, espeacially for long pieces of fanfiction.
2) Know your characters. Any story, short or long, fanfiction or novel, is run by its characters. Besides, any reader will tell you how they hate when a favorite character does something... out of character. Usually, writing a bio page, very much like creating a character page here on SS, is plenty, but you may want to add more. Most people will write a whole detailed backstory for their character, but who knows? Maybe you'll figure out something else even better!
3) Research. It'll do a world of good to have your facts straight, regardless of the topic. Even still, it needn't be about your fanfic, persay. It could be about how to write better fanfiction, for example, or how to make a good character. Because honestly, I don't know everything about writing. These tips only come from experience.
4) Set a timeline. Try to write everyday for a set limit. However, do not make it such a strict "goal" that writing becomes a bore. When you start to dread working on your fanfic, your work ethic goes down , and so does the writing... quality.
Let me know if you have more questions. And like I said before: Listen if you want, ignore if you wish.

Added note: I hope that's what you meant. I'll pretty weird writing a
comment of that extent only to find that it wasn't what you meant. ![]() |
