I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I recently rewatched Spirit, and I noticed something I'd never realised before: the chestnut on the right of this picture seems to have white spots on his shoulder. Are the Birdcatcher spots, or just war paint?

It seems entirely possibly that they are Birdcatcher spots, since he's a chestnut, but being a Native American mount it's also very possible they're just painted on...Does anyone know for sure which it is?

I thought it was the paint too, but now looking at it, it's kinda impossible to get a paint exactly lighter than the horses coat..so I think it is a strong possibility that they are Birdcatcher spots.

I've always been under the impression that Bircatcher spots can show up anywhere and anywhen on a horse's body, so it's possible, though unlikely, that they'd form a little cluster like that on his shoulder. In addition, it could be a bit of artistic license at work on the part of the animators/colourers/directors to cluster Bircatcher Spots together like that...But you're right, they do seem too deliberate and organised. Guess they probably are war paintings, I just got all excited at the prospect of a Birdcatcher spotted horse in the film ^^;

I do belive that is just his paint. I could be wrong but wouldd Birdcatcher spots just show up in one tiny area and no where else?
