Birth

Question :

I searched the Questions list because I thought someone asked this already, but I couldn't seem to find it, so I shall ask (if it's there and I missed it, I apologize).

I know when it comes to fanart, there's a strict No Violence and No Sex rule.

Totally respect that!

However, what's the policy on fanart depicting birth?

Birth is often bloody, graphic and we all know where the baby comes out of.

It is also a wonderful, beauitful process that dawns the era of new life, despite the blood and other fluids that are released from the mother.

Many young children (especially nowadays) are exposed to the birthing process of a horse, dog, cat, hamster or other creatures, so it's really not as though birth should be shielded from the eyes of kids (ESPECIALLY with how violent videogames are).

I'm currently working on a fanart depicting the birth Spirit. So, I ask...will I be able to post it??

Are images/fanart of a character being born allowed or not?

Will it be condradicting the no violence/sex rule, or is birth the exception to the rule?

As a kid, my mother never "shielded" me from watching animals give birth. As a 3 year-old, I watched a poodle have her puppies. There's nothing dangerous about a kid seeing an animal have a baby. No matter how you slice it, there's no excuse for hiding birth from kids.

I don't understand why parents feel they must 'protect' their children from the truth. I mean...protect the child from the truth by constructing an elaborate lie??? Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I agree with Marty.
Honestly, nothing is wrong for a child to see or know something about birth, sex, or violence. All of them are natural, and it's more than likely going to happen to them one day, so why hide it or lie about it? They're going to either experience it or witness it one day. Me being 13, it doesn't bother me. I see it and just say "eh". I haven't read many books with any such thing like that, but I have seen some pictures, and it's just like as if I'm looking at a picture of a dog.
I can see why they sometimes hide it. Some kid's parent(s) don't want to expose such things to young children. So basically, not activating the image is like saying "they need permission to see it".

I agree here, But if the Mod's are so protective about it, why not put a mature filter on the images or something? So kids can't access these things even though there's a lot of worse thing's they've seen in their lifetime. To be honest, I don't see why there's such a big deal about it. :/

I have to agree. Kids have most likely seen much worse than birth. There's video games out there like Grand Theft Auto for example is MUCH worse than birth(I've played it before with a friend. Just plain stupid) and kids younger than me (I'm 12) are playing it. If they are going to be parents one day, They will see it. Its not like a six year old is going to be on this site. I've seen your drawings, too, MW Roach, and I know you've put A LOT of hard work into them.

Well, if not the site-builders, then the web-masters.

Either way, with all the violence and (censored) in TV, movies and books that kids are introduced to these days, there was no reason whatsoever for my birth-pic to be deactivated other then the undying yearning to lie to children about birth.

There's no reason for this site to try and pretend there's no such thing as birth (or that birth is simple, clean and not in the least bit painful...perhaps if some of these young girls saw how painful and messy birth is, they wouldn't be having babies when they're 14).

Kids are a little too smart nowadays to believe in the stork XD

So, I ask again for a REAL reason why my birth-pic was deactivated and why birth-pics in general aren't allowed when perverts and trolls are allowed to post comments here even though they're not members. Priorities NEED to be straightened out on this site. FOR REAL.

DID SOMEONE SAY DRACO MALFOY
roach site builders can only do things for the site we dont aprove images ect thats for mods to do

anyway, im not a big fan about it but i do belive it should be allowed givensome warning in the name of the image, there's books called warriors where they do birth with detail and the books for kids (apprentley) and its not like kids arnt exposed to it, i was about 7 when i saw a horse have foal and it was on TV, and this was when thatsort of stuff was hidden from children, now days there more exposed to it,i knew someone whos parents allowed him to teach his 4-5 year old sister how to sware

after i frist read this i was channel flicking and found scrubs was on tv at a time where a younger viewer could find it, and the topic of sex came up then the next thing to come on was my name is earl. both shows do have what use to be "adults only" content but where being screened in child friendley times, wich is why i surport this, children are being exposed to it way more then they use to even in aussie wich rates games and movies harder then in the US (war horse and hunger games for exsample you had to beover 16 to see... unless the parent got the ticket without the kids)

Thanks for the support Irish :) ...now, a word for the mods:

For a site who's so interested in 'keeping kids safe', you guys are pretty liberal with allowing non-members to post comments on real member's profile pages and other places on the site (fanart, images, characters, etc...). There have been numerous incidents where 'trolls' are allowed to harass the kids here, leaving mean comments on their characters and art, and even cursing at them.

Cyber-bullying is a huge contribution to adolescent suicides.

So, non members can curse and bully the kids here, but I can't post my birth-pic; a natural, beautiful process that should be approved for ALL audiences.

Seriously, the mods and site-builders REALLY need to sort out their priorities....

I have to agree with Roach, most children see much worse in game their parents or siblings buy them. I think everyone on this site is mature enough to see these types of things, its not like they are never going to see it in their whole life, but i dont make the rules so anyways... Everything else i have to say has already been said. All in all i agree with Roach and the others who think the same.

The way the movie does it is a lie. Babies do not come out dry (in fact, to have a baby without the proper fluids for lubrication would likely kill both the mother and the infant). I just think that shielding kids from the truth is doing far more damage then showing them what the birth actually looks like.

I can just see a 'shielded' kid seeing birth for the first time and then freaking out, crying, screaming and being scarred for life because 'that's not how Spirit was born! Birth shouldn't have blood! Now the mommy is gonna bleed to death!! Ewwww.....' °x°

Seems way more harmful to me, but hey, violent blood-spewing videogames are far better for children then truth, I suppose. :!
