I know most of the people on this site use renders or blank line-arts to make their character profiles. I also know that many, if not all, of the artists who provide Line-Art or blank renders request that they be credited for their art if one chooses to use it.
I am seeing an awful LOT of "I don't know who did the lines but it wasn't me" and "lines (C) to original artist" or, my personal favorite, "renders (C) another artist I just don't know who".
Now, I can see the person is admitting they didn't make the line-art or render...but I feel that it isn't quite good enough. The artist who provided the render or line-art is NOT getting their recognition. I mean, I see people who make characters using multiple images in the bios, each image from a different artist, and saying 'line-art not done by me, but I don't know who did it'. None of those artists are getting the credit they deserve.
Here's my question...shouldn't you KNOW who's art you're taking to use for your characters/images and give the artist in question their due credits?
Just stating that someone else drew/rendered the original image isn't giving the artist their proper credits.
If you can't remember who did the line-art or render, you shouldn't use it until you know who to give the credits to.
Do you see what I mean?

I agree with you Roach, but I also agree with Draco. I have some ole
renders, even if I can't recall who made them, I either find out or
don't use them. Most people don't find out, or are just to lazy to
try. In my opinion, this should be against the rules, but a warning
should be given instead of automatic deactivation when reported. |

But isn't it a bad thing to not give proper credits to the artist,
despite the excuses? It's pretty much borderline stealing to use
someone else's work and not give credit for it. I just think that the
artists providing the renders or line-arts should be credited for
their work, and not passed over as if they did nothing. |
