Welcome to the Source, Trixy! ^^ I'm Feathervenom, and if you ever
need any help, you can come to me and I'll do all I can to help. I can
name you three good programs for beginners if you want to do digitals,
which are also called renders.
MS Paint will work if you know how to use it, but I'd suggest looking
up a tutorial. Under these comments, there's the site activity, and
the side that has the forum posts is the one you ought to check out -
if you click on one of the herds or something, you'll be in the "Fan
More" section, where there are plenty of tutorials, and one that says
"How to render like Val" should help. ^^
A second one is called Paint.net. You have to download it, but it's a
lot like MS paint, but a little more powerful and has layers. For that
one, you want to make a new layer and make sure the lines you use are
solid and connected, that way you can fill it in easily. It has curved
lines, making it easy to use with a mouse. It's a good program. ^^
My personal favorite is GIMPShop. It's also referred to just as GIMP,
and it's the most powerful. Gimp has layers, different line types and
strengths, transparency, ect. ... You don't have a fill bucket,
though, so your best friend will be the wand tool. You want to make
sure, just like Paint.net, that your lines are solid and closed for
this method. You click the horse once you've outlined it, and a moving
dashed line shows up around it. It'll be the only thing that gets
filled in. It's a bit tougher, since you have to freehand lines. You
could also have an extra layer and color under the lines if you want
soft lines, but that takes longer since you have to color it by
hand.
