Personality:

Luna has all the intelligence and stubborn perseverance of her mustang father, and all the pride and elegance of her Andalusian mother. She’s an amiable mare who enjoys the company of others, but she can be hot heated and impulsive at times. She’s also very assertive, and knows what she wants. As a result she has very high standards in what she’s looking for in a stallion.

History:

Blue Moon’s mother was an Andalusian mare that had been stolen from her ranch by an overo mustang stallion. Since her mother, Azul, was a highly prized and expensive mare her owners soon came looking for her. But the stallion, Full Moon, had taken his herd far from the ranch, so it would be almost two years before her master found Azul. In the meantime she became pregnant and bore a roan overo filly, which she named Blue Moon, after her father. Nicknamed Luna by her parents and the herd, the little filly grew up quickly.

Luna’s first year of life was pleasant and carefree. She was taught well by her father, who took an interest in all his offspring. By the time she was a yearling Luna was growing into an intelligent, beautiful filly. But then the peace broke. Azul’s master finally caught up to the herd and, recognising his Andalusian mare, angrily shot the stallion who’d stolen her. Full Moon was killed instantly. His mares panicked and fled, but Azul’s master managed to rope her. Little Luna bolted with the rest of the mares, and never saw her mother again.

As evening fell the mares found a safe glade to rest for the night. They were all very badly shaken, and the fact that they were now without a stallion made them nervous and worried. Luna felt particularly alone without her mother or father there. After a few days a young bachelor stallion claimed the herd, and the mares once again had protection. Luna stayed with them for a year before leaving as a 2 year old to find a herd and stallion for herself.

She wandered alone for a while before joining a band of other lone mares, who she’s been with ever since. Although many stallions have tried to entice her to join their herds, she hasn’t felt any particular desire to go with any of them. Despite this she has befriended quite a few of them.
