Name: Evita
Gender: Mare
Breed: American Paint Horse
Color: Black Overo
Mate: None, Open
Sire: Patch, Paint stud
Dam: Lucia, Paint mare
Personality: Evita is very easygoing, only ever hinting at the real possibility of being on her last nerve. She has a very nurturing aura and quickly bonds to any defenseless creatures she comes across. She is strong-willed, and never completely abandons hope, though she tends to think about it. She's exceptionally kind-hearted despite knowing that it will eventually lead her into real danger, and she adheres devoutly to the chivalrous ideas of courtly love, knowing that there is a place in her significant other's life where she will be involved.
She doesn't care for the life of a feral horse, having to run from danger all the time or being under constant threat of being stolen out of a herd by rogue stallions or hunted by predators. She'd much prefer to be back home on a ranch, but being an Indian Pony isn't such a bad life to her. She does get a little spooked about being able to wander freely around the village at times, but being with a herd she feels safe, and she is always the first horse to get to her rider when called upon. She genuinely likes most humans.
History:
Evita was born on a working cattle ranch with a future as a cowhorse. The ranch hands in her particular home did not prefer mares when they went on cattle musters, thinking them more suited to being broodmares, but Evita proved from a very young age that she was surefooted enough to move effortlessly over tough terrain, and that she was agile enough to cut off even the quickest cow's escape route.
She was willingly trained under saddle when she was three years old, and participated in her first cattle drive the next year. She never made it back, however, because the ranchers were ambushed by Indians, who were merciless towards them. Angered by the ranchers moving in on their land, they killed them, and took the cattle and horses for themselves.
They were a poor village, and obviously hadn't had much interference from the new settlers in their land aside from being forcibly removed from their homes. Whether they had planned to eat the cattle as well as the horses, or simply to barter them for other goods, no one knew. And they would never know, because that same night another tribe raided their camp, stealing the horses. These were the Sioux, who would use the horses for hunting buffalo and as war horses.
They stole only a few cattle, knowing that the starving tribe should be left with something to eat for at least a few days. But they couldn't risk seeing perfectly useful horses go to waste as meat, as they undoubtedly would when the people ran out of beef to eat. Evita was taken from the village by the US cavalry when they were gathering horses to help build the Railroad, was set free by Spirit, and made her way back to the Lakota village.
Relation to Spirit: She has met Rain and had a few words with her while the sorrel mare was recovering from the river incident, but doesn't really know her well enough to have an opinion on her since Rain left shortly after Spirit and Little Creek returned and the latter let both Spirit and Rain go free. Rumors are that Little Creek has claimed Evita as his new horse.
