History
Dexter was born in the Cavalry to Yarrow and Pistol. Both his parents were calavry horses and his father, Pistol, was one of the most respected. He grew up wanting to be just like his father but the other cavalry foals teased him for being too soft to ever be a cavalry horse. However, this didnt hold Dexter back and he promised himself he would be a great Cavalry stallion.
As a yearling, Dexter's dreams to become a Cavalry stallion were beginning to turn. As he grew, he started to hear many stories of how badly the men treated their horses. Dexter began to fear how he would be handled as he was still considered too soft. His fears began to fade when he met Granite. He and Granite were around the same age and he took a liking to the young, ambitious colt. They started training together and Granite tried to teach him to be more fearless. Dexter began to feel confident once more and truly believed he could become as great as his father.
As he got older, Dexter started going on more practice rides. On one particular ride he caught a glimpse of The Cimarron Herd and watched in amazement as the horses ran free. He began to feel differently about the Cavalry once again. When he returned he told Granite what he saw and how he was beginning to want to join them. Granite dismissed this and told him that this was their only home and he would never be able to escape. Dexter retorted and told Granite that he used to think he was brave but he was wrong. For a long time afterwards, Dexter could not stop thinking about running free. he started to hate being so boxed up all the time and only allowed to run when the men allowed him to. The men started to be harsh with him as he was becoming more distracted. Dexter started to become aware of how poorly the men treated their horses and his desire to run free became stronger. During his first attack, Dexter thought this was a perfect oppotunity to dismount his rider. Whilst his rider was shooting he reared him off of his back. He began to run into the distance never to be seen again by the Cavalry.
Dexter wandered alone for a while. He was lost but he felt happier than he had in a long time. While travelling he watched on as a buckskin stallion, Spirit, was being captured by men. He pitied the stallion as he knew what he was in for. He travelled a little farther until he found a small band of horses on a Mountain. He observed the group before deciding to ask to join them. They were a new band, but they were still sceptical of newcomers. However, after saving a foal from falling off a cliff edge, he was fully accepted as a member, also gaining a crush on a mare named Fanette.
A while later, Dexter was scanning the herd borders when he noticed a stallion lying at the bottom of the mountain edge. He investigated and noticed the stallion was still breathing. He brought him back to the herd and the stallion awoke a few moments later. The stallions name was revealed to be Fuji and Dexter was quick to become friends with him. Fuji was soon allowed to join the herd, much to Dexter's joy.
