>>>----------> Personality, traits, etc. <----------<<<
Personality: Alfonso is gentle, kind, and playfull. He is usually lively and in high spirits, but he also carries scars from being separeted from his home during a violent storm, stewn out on his own. Through the years that he became a drifter, an overwhelming sense of loneliness fell upon him, and so naturally, he became reserved and distant to even himself. Even when he stayed with the Cimarron herd, he kept to himself. And that is why it's easy for him to drift away from the herd once Spirit is old enough to become leader. Excepting being alone, Alfonso is surpised to find that after meeting a mustang/appaloosa mare (Sonya) he begins to open up again. He becomes loving and protective when it comes to Sonya, and so returning to his gentle and kind, yet playful disposition.
Injuries: Alfonso's gate carries a permanent limp from a sharp rock slicing through his hind right leg when he was swept down a river during the violent storm that separated him from his father's herd.
History:
Alfonso's mother—a paint mare by the name of Eider–was born and raised in an indian village, and that's where she remained for years. Or at least up until the village was attacked and destroyed. Eider managed to escape. After travling for several days, she stumbled into Cedar's territory. He allowed her into his herd, and there she stayed, excepting it as her home. Later, she gives birth to Alfonso the same year that Strider is born.
Two years later, a small band of mares who had struggled to survive the harsh winter joined the herd, including that of a young filly (Esperanza). While Strider grows close to the filly in another way, Alfonso and the young mare form a sibling bond. But not long afterwards, a violent storm hits, and seperates most of the herd. Stewn away by the driving rain, cracks of lighting, and harsh wind, Alfonso slips off of a muddy bank into a river. Cast down stream, he was lucky to survive, washing up ashore after the storm passes instead of being taken under by the current. But by this point, he is badly injured and too far from his father's herd to return. Instead, he travles on, despite his immense wounds. Sometime during this, the sense of a weakened horse attracks a cougar. Though weak and in pain, Alfonso musters what's left of his strength, and takes off, escaping that dealy fate, only to have a new one be brought upon him: a safe distance from the courgar, he collapses.
Awaking sometime later, Alfonso finds himself being cared for by indians. Once recovered enough, by choice, he follows the indians back to their tribe and village, and stays there for several months. But eventually, he strays away from the village, feeling that his home is elsewhere, only he was unsure where.
Alfonso spends the next years drifting from place to place, until he finds the Cimarron herd. With Strider gone and Esperanza pregnant with Spirit, Alfonso stays to help protect the herd. But after so long of wondering on his own, he keeps to himself, staying at a distance, despite the fact that he still saw Esperanza as somewhat of a sister. When Spirit is born, the young colt grows curious of Alfonso and his habit to watch and protect the herd from a distance. Alfonso, despite his attempts to keep himself distant from the herd, finds himself growing fond of Spirit as he sees that the colt looks up to him. But as the buckskin grows old enough to become the herds leader, Alfonso drifts away, and goes off on his own again.
Another year later, while he is searching out a place to graze, he senses another horse along with danger. Trotting up the side of a ridge, he sees an appaloosa mare (Sonya) grazing in a valley not far from a village. The mare's head suddenly shoots up as she senses and smells danger like Alfonso had. Seconds later, from his high view, Alfonso sees a cougar moving through the tall grass that makes up the valley. Obviously a mustang, the mare would have been able to protect herself, but that didn't stop Alfonso's instincts. Bolting down into the valley, he scares off the cougar after a short lived fight, only aquiring a few wounds. As he turns to the mare, something about her instantly captures him. Greatful for his aid, the mare—whom he learns is named Sonya—fusses over the wounds. Taken by her, Alfonso follows Sonya back to the nearby village, but still keeps a distance.
Over a short time, both horses grow close, and feeling complete near Sonya, Alfonso stays near the village. It isn't long before they form a bond, and become mates.
Possibly to be continued . . .
