Brief History:
Alastar was born on a cattle ranch, and was an unintentional foal. His mother Eugene–an Irish Cob brought over from the British Isles–having escaped the ranch one day, had stumbled across the proud mustang stallion of a heard. His name was Alastair. Feeling sorry for the young mare, he took her under his wing, and welcomed her into his heard. She remained there until one day when she made the decision to return to the ranch, missing her old life.
The rancher of the cattle ranch was reluctant to keep the colt his mare had bore, but Alastar, he decided, would bring him a good price when he came of age.
Alastar lived his life on the farm until he reached the age of one. The rancher found a buyer who'd agreed to pay a handsome price for him, and within a few days after he turned one, Alastar was sent off to his new master.
At first, Alastar was happy in his new home, but as days gradually flew by, he learned that his new master wasn't who he thought he was. Every day was the same: the master would overwork Alastar, whipping and hitting him whenever he felt the need, his words cruel and harsh whenever he spoke. Alastar's spirits broke, and he began plotting to escape his wretched master.
And he did.
Now free, Alastar wandered aimlessly, having no desire to do anything but go as far away from his master as he could. After fifteen days of endless wandering, he stumbled across a filly as he was trotting across a stream. At first, he was cautious, but he soon found, as he drew closer to her, that she was beautiful. Mind now on her and off of his master, he boldly approached her, and asked her name; it was Rain. Now madly in love, he vowed to stay by her side and make her his mate. But it wouldn't be so. She lived with the Lakotas, she told him, and wanted him to come with her to her village. Alastar, scarred from his many months with his abusive master, reluctantly refused to go, but he promised he'd remain in the woods if she ever wanted to see him.
So Alastar remained in the woods, and every chance she got, Rain came to see him. But he soon grew to realize that she wasn't in love with him, and treated him more as if he was a brother. This irked Alastar, who fled off into the night after his discovery. Now alone, he wandered far and wide.
In his fifth year, Alastar was captured by the U.S Cavalry and taken to their camp. He was broken and trained to pull the army's cannons, being strong and able to do so. But, the cavalry soon found, Alastar was a nuisance to them, the stallions trust issues still strong for humans, thus, he caused trouble. The Cavalry put up with him for a mere four months before selling him to a farmer who intended to use him to plow his fields. But the stallion never made it to the far; he broke away from his new master and was once again free.
