Rain, Serena's dam, raised Serena to be a very confident young filly. But, when Serena got lost after she ran away from a battle against the Lakota Tribe, she stumbled across the Cimarron Herd. Her being a meek 2 year old, Spirit allowed her in the herd. When Spirit went on his long journey and returned to the herd with Rain at his side, Serena was very happy to see her mother and that her mother had become mates with Spirit. But, when Rain was stolen from Spirit by another stallion, and Spirit found Jade, a buckskin mare, as his new mate, she was now stuck in great depression. But months later she felt that it was time to move on and continue to love her life and be greatful for what she has rather than what she doesn't have.
