History:
Entarik grew up in the Cavalry with his parents. He was born and raised to be used to chase down mustangs. His father was an ex-racehorse, and that’s where Entarik got his speed from. Both his parents were thoroughbreds as well.
When Entarik was older, he was taken out on trips with the other Cavalry troops, but not used. Entarik longed to chase down wild horses with the advanced troopers, but was still too young.
However, when the day finally came, Enratik was beyond excited. His master took him out with the other troops, to catch needed horses for the railroads.
The trip went on for multiple days, and was very successful. Entarik’s energy was always there, but his spirit was lacking. Eventually, the wranglers found a small herd of horses in a clearing.
Excited, Entarik stood while the wranglers overlooked the valley, seeking out their best options. Entarik watched the wild horses, surprised to see they weren’t much different from himself. The foals played as he did, and the older horses were chatting amongst themselves.
Entarik felt a strange feeling in his heart. He didn’t want to break up the herd by chasing them down. The horses had friends, and family, just like he did. He didn’t want to be taken away from his parents either.
However, the wrangler riding him grabbed his rope and delivered a strong kick to Entarik’s side. Entarik shot forward out of reflex, and galloped towards the herd. The horses perked up, but fled in panic when they realized what was happening.
Entarik grew irritated. He didn’t want to do this, he wanted the horses to have their own lives, and live happily.
Entarik decided he couldn’t let the horses fall into the cavalry’s hands. He stopped mid-gallop, throwing his rider’s balance off. The human fell to the ground, shouting all kinds of nasty words. However, before he could re-mount, Entarik took off towards the other troop members. He ran besides them, throwing them off, allowing the wild horses to escape safely.
Angered, the wranglers brought Entarik back to his rider and yelled at him for a little bit. Then the group returned to the campsite.
The next day the group rode back to the Cavalry, with bad news. The Colonel was furious, and demanded to know what had happened. The situation was explained, and The Colonel walked towards Entarik, who was telling his parents about the wild horses. They were confused however, at why they hadn’t caught anyone. Their son was fast, after all.
Granite, the Colonel’s horse walked over and talked to Entarik’s parents, describing the situation. Entarik’s father grew angry, and he snapped at his son. Entarik was confused, and hurt, but before he could ask any questions, the Colonel came over to him.
He grew excited, it was an honor to have the Colonel chose you, and he was being picked. However, that excitement quickly faded when the Colonel dragged him away from his parents, shouting harshly. Entarik looked back at his parents, whinnying for their help, but they bowed their heads, refusing to look at their failure of a son.
The Colonel stripped Entarik of his tack, and led him beyond the wooden gates. Entarik looked over at him, and the Colonel glared back. He gently removed the bridle, letting the young thoroughbred free.
As the Colonel walked back into the gates, he saw Entarik following him back in. He shouted at the horse, and grabbed his hat, waving it around. Finally, with a good swat on the rump, Entarik realized he was no longer welcome, and ran off.
He ran for what seemed like forever, tears brimming in his eyes. He hadn’t meant to cause any harm to his family or the Colonel, he just didn’t see that it was fair to hurt the wild horses’ families.
After a while Entarik met up with a few other lone horses, who had been disgraced as he had. They called themselves the Outclanners. He stayed with them for a long time before he found a mare lying in the grass a few miles from where their group stayed.
She was sleeping, so he decided to stand by her and wait for her to wake up. When she did, he found out her name was Allegro., and that she had run away from the valley where she lived. She told him about her herd, and how they were dying. Entarik promised to help her, and introduced her to the other members of the Outclanners.
Together, him, Allegro, and the rest of the group started their journey towards rescue. A journey that would lead them all over the west.
