History:
Allegro grew up in a small valley surrounded by canyons. There was no herd present, but a few friendly families and loners. One afternoon, a huge storm hit their valley. It was mid-summer, and everything was dried out in the scorching valley. The rain was a blessing in the heat, but soon turned into an omen. The clouds covered the sun, and harsh winds drove the horses to the center of their unsheltered valley, where they huddled together.
Everything was bearable, until the lightning came. The bright flashes terrified the horses, and some ran off in a mad frenzy of panic. However, before anyone could get far, large boulders from the canyon walls fell down in a landslide, covering the only escape from the valley. The horses were horrified, but stayed strong. However, lightning stuck, igniting their dried grasses on fire. The flames spread quickly, even with the heavy rains. However, eventually the fire ran out of grass to burn, and the rain put it out.
Left in a dried out valley, the herd suffered a huge drought. Food was almost impossible to find, and water was scarce. Allegro’s father, Oomaro stepped up and took place as leader of the now joined group of horses. He called the herd the gifted, for even though their home was destroyed, they survived.
Day by day, the horses worked to nudge the boulders out of the way so they could get to food, and fresh water. However, it was an extremely slow process.
After many weeks, the drought only worsened, and it brought with it the death of two horses. Upset, and without hope, the horses did what they could to survive. Fights broke out often, but they always ended due to lack of energy.
After another week, the coyotes came. They had smelled the dying horses from miles away, and knew they’d be an easy prey. They settled in the canyon’s and mountains surrounding the valley, and waited for their chance.
Allegro decided she wanted to try to escape. She knew that the herd was dying, and needed a way to escape, but most of the horses were too weary to attempt to climb the boulders. Allegro ran towards the boulders, despite her mother’s yelling, and proceeded to climb the best she could. After what seemed like ages, Allegro made it halfway up. The herd watched from below, hopeful she could escape and find them help.
However, on her way up the mountain of rocks, she was ambushed by coyotes lurking in the shadows. They bit at her legs, but she managed to land a few good kicks that sent them spiraling off the rocks, and to their deaths.
Tired, and sore, Allegro continued her climb. Her muscles ached, and her throat was parched, but she eventually made it to the top of the hill. She whinnied in triumph, and called to the herd, declaring that she would bring back help.
However, the horses were now excited. They saw one horse escape, and thought they could do it too. Even Allegro’s parents climbed up after her. However, in the mad rush to get to the top, three horses died, and many slipped and were injured.
Eventually, the surviving horses climbed down, including Selenne. However, on the way down, Oomaro was attacked by a coyote who had hidden while his friends were killed by Allegro. The coyote launched itself at Oomaro, and bit at his leg.
Surprised, Oomaro lost his balance and fell. He tumbled to the bottom, where he lay. He was not dead, but when he tried to stand, his leg gave way under him. He was injured badly, and could not fight off the coyotes now scaling the mountains to prey on the injured horse.
However, Selenne and the other horses formed a circle around the wounded, and protected them from the coyotes.
Allegro started to crawl back down to help, but her mom screamed at her to go and get help. Blinking back tears, Allegro left the valley of death and ran. Night soon came, and Allegro collapsed, miles away from the valley. She didn’t remember what happened, but when she woke up the next morning, she was lying in a field.
A dark bay horse approached her. His name was Entarik, and he had protected her while she slept. After talking with him, and discussing her situation, he led her back to his herd. There were five horses in the herd total, including him. All of them were either cast out from their original herds, or born orphans. They had banded together, calling themselves the Outclanners.
They had no leader, but all helped each other. After announcing her situation to the rest of the horses, they swore to help Allegro rescue her herd. However, they would need the help of other horses, if they were to be successful.
One such horse that helped was Spirit. While searching for other horses, they came across his terrirtory, and he welcomed them. After explaining her situation, Spirit gladly nominated a few of his horses to join their already growing group. Allegro noticed Entarik took a huge interest in the buckskin stallion, and they talked for many hours alone. She never knew why, but didn't bother to ask, since it was most likely personal.
I’m thinking of writing a fanfic for this, so that’s why it ends there.
