History/Bio
~Foal~
Maybe not all horses have freedom,..but we all know what it was. I know this because I didn't always have freedom, but I realized I'd always dreamed about it. Every horse has a sense of freedom. Even if there not sure what it is. They will know it when they feel it, even if the feeling is a lack of it.
Gold, a smutty palomino was pranceing beside her mother in tall yellowish gass. A grey-brown fence enclosed them. Her mother was telling her about those before her. She had a nice sire and was well bred to be an excellent work horse. She had many well bred members to her family. But her mother was just a farm workhorse. She was bred to be riden, to carry loads and to help travel. Most likely because all of them are going west. West? Yes,Her mother had said.West. Her mother's words always stuck with Gold. She thought about her a lot. After some time passed she was weaned. But she still saw her mother somewhat.
~Young filly~
But then she was eventually broken in, it seemed awful at first, but then they earned her trust. She became a steady reliable horse. She worked beside her mother some. Eventually she was sold to a man headed west. She carried supplies and the man. She was sold, again and again, to do farmwork, carry things. And Gold was glad to do it for them. She worked as long as she was needed.
~Mare~
I did all kinds of work for twolegs, though no matter what I did I could not clearly see how I could be away from work and twoleg things. Until i worked under wranglers. Who robbed something valuable, though I had always dreamt and daydreamed about it, I wasn't certain how i could be free,..
Eventually way out west. she was bought by some wranglers. They captured wild horses. Gold wasn't sure what it meant to be wild. But yet she sometimes wondered what it might be like, even as she worked, to wander far and not live among humans. Not until she saw and heard of horses running free. Free? Without humans to feed them? Out here where in mantn places there was no grass? They were tough. But what horse ws thst tough. She heard of mustangs they captured and sold, being hard to break in. Her mother told her her father was tough, and hard breaking in. But he was strong and reliable,..was he like them? She didn't like taking horses. They hurt them sometimes. Sometimes they cried for help. They could do nothing. Her and some friends cringed, Angela, The one stallion seemed numb but a littlke concerned. But the one mare really loved it when they failed to catch them. Even if it meant their owners went without money or food for awhile.
Then, I really knew what freedom was. When I saw him. That horse had such spirit,..I rarely ever saw in again in any horse,..not even the other wild horses. Or broncos as them riders call him. A mustang. It really scarred something inside in all of us horses to watch him go down. Cruel. Another word for some humans, just some.
The one night he saw him, she could not bleive his eyes. The one s mare saw him,...warned him away! But he woke the riders. Then they all went chasing. He was real clever. Smarter than even the craftiest horses they'd chased. Gold was so happy to see him knock that rider off that mare. She felt freedom! Like she'd always wanted other horses to have, but not for herself. But eventually they caught him,..and he fell. When he did, Gold felt a CRACK. Of no bone, rock or solid. It was her and her friends hearts. Watching something so magnificent brought down was saddening.
They took him to a fort to sell him. They made quite a bit. He was a fine find. It was a shame, Gold felt for such a horse to go to the cavalry was a waste. Horses got shot, killed many ways. She'd heard a lot. Then again, she also felt for some reason he might be fine,..he was a tough horse. Hard to break. She beleived in him. Though he shouldn't be here, shouldn't have come here. It was alll their fault,...
Days later, the wranglers were camping late one night. When gold smelled smoke. A fire! Something had happened, and the horses were all over the place. Everyone was panicing, Gold ran, she was afraid. she ran into the dark trees, until she reached a river. No one was to be seen. Smoke wafted its way in the air far away. the glow of fire was nowhere to be seen. it was dark. She crossed the river, and wandered into the pine trees. There was a lot of mist. There was no one around. No angela,..no two-legs. Nothing. But then the golden light of the rising sun rose. and Gold folowed where it shown. to the west. To freedom.
~ Free ~
She followed west day and night for a very long time until she found mountains upon mountains and green hills. Freedom. She kept heading west. The saddle was coming loose. She stopped by a river to get a drink. She slipped and fell in. She bumped into many rocks. But she was fine when she finally got up. I'll have to be more careful,..she thought. One of the rocks had cut her bridle and she also lost the saddle. She was bit bruised. Her legs hurt. She kept going. The mare walked until she met up with a herd. The Colorado Herd. Gris let her in and Aida trusted her. Gold never saw another horse that reminded her so much of that wild stallion(Spirit). They were so similar in apearance and character. Months passed and Gold was now one of Gris's mares. She had adapted well and understood why spirit was the way he was. More horses had alsom joined the herd.
