Bio:
Cratus was born in the Cavarly on a cold, winters night. His mother, a beautiful black pinto, looked at him with loving eyes... But there was also sorrow in them too. At the time, Cratus did not see the sorrow his mother possessed. Cratus snuggled close to her, it was very cold and she was the only one to provide warmth. When morning came, a groom came by to check Cratus's mother. When he saw Cratus, he ran to fetch the Colonel. Later, the Colonel looked through the stall to see little Cratus. The Colonel stared at Cratus for a long time, nodding his head a little later. The Colonel then stated that he would be called experiment 003 and they would work Cratus when he turned one...
For the rest of Cratus's childhood, he mostly remembers his mother being gone for most of the day. Night time was really the only time Cratus got to see his mother. But during those nights, Cratus's mother would tell him stories about the stars. She told him that everyones ancestors lived up there, and one day, she would have to go as well. The day came when Cratus turned one, where one of the cavarly men dragged Cratus away from the safety of his stall. They pushed and pulled Cratus everywhere, cut his hair, put heavy shoes on his feet. Then, the Colonel came to inspect Cratus. Cratus stared into those snake-like eyes, they had no mercy in them what-so-ever. The Colonel commanded for Cratus to be tested, seeing how strong he was at such a young age. The men placed a pulling rig on Cratus, then hooked him up to a heavy cart filled with stones and boulders. The men then prodded and lightly whipped Cratus in motion. Cratus was forced to pull that heavy cart of blouders to another part of the Cavarly. Cratus legs burned, his back ached, he didn't know how much longer he could stand the weight. Finally, they stopped Cratus, allowing him to rest. The Colonel came up to the men, a evilish smile on his face. He declared that Cratus was the horse they've been waiting for, he declared that 'experiment 003' was the ultimate war weapon...
For several years, Cratus went through harsh and intense training to truely become the 'Ultimate War weapon.' The Colonel made Cratus pull carts that weighed more than 12,000 pounds almost every single day. The Colonel didn't really care of Cratus's welfare, all he wanted was the strongest horse. The only comfort Cratus received was from his mother. She continued to love and tell Cratus about his ancestors, comforting him when he was sore and in pain. Cratus's mother was everything to him. However, Cratus eventually figured out that his mother was forced upon several stallions so he would be born. Cratus couldn't believe his mother had to go through so much pain just so he could be born. Cratus was ashamed to be alive, he hated himself for his mothers pain. However, Cratus's pain hasn't even begun...
One day, when Cratus was going through one of his intense training sessions, he hear a loud BANG sound through the fort. Cratus didn't know what had happened, so he continued in his training. However, when Cratus returned to his stall next to his mother's, she wasn't there. At first, Cratus assumed that someone had taken her to work, but she wasn't worked in over a year. The next morning, she still was there. This panic Cratus, where could she be?
" Why did the Colonel put down that Pinto mare?" said a cavarly man.
" He said that she was to old to work or breed anymore, so there was no reason to keep her." Responded another man.
" Thats sad, she was such a sweet mare..." said the first man. Cratus couldn't believe what he heard! The Colonel killed his mother, HE KILLED HER!!!! Outraged, Cratus knocked down the his stall door, running out of control through the fort. Several men tryed to stop or calm Cratus down, but none of them had sucess. Cratus was blinded by anger. Soon, the Colonel came running out to see what the commotion was. The Colonel saw Cratus, realizing that he was out of control.
" Bring the tranquilizer guns out!!" The Colonel yelled to his men. Cratus saw a few men come out with guns in their hands, he would NOT be stopped. Cratus looked to the side, seeing that a patrol group was returning, the doors were open. Cratus dashed for the doors, hearing the tranquilizer's going off. Cratus heard men shouting to close the doors, they were going to cut him off. Cratus ran with everything he had, his training clicking into action. Just before the doors shut, Cratus jumped through the small opening left, he was free. But this didn't stop Cratus, he wanted to get as far away from the Cavarly as his legs could carry him. However, after a while, Cratus started to become tired, everything was a blurred. Cratus then fell to the ground, he didn't know what was going on. Cratus soon saw that he had been hit by one of the tranquilizer guns, then blacked out.
Several hours later, Cratus began to gain consciousness. Cratus could hear someone humming, it was soft, melodic. But suddenly, he felt a damp rag against his skin. This started Cratus up, he came to full consciousness to see who was near him. Right beside Cratus was another human, but she was different. This human wore different clothing, her skin was also different. She spoken in a very hushed voice, saying that everything was alright. Cratus then felt what seemed to be a thousand sores all at once, causing him to lay back down. The human continued to hum in her melodic rhythm, touching several sores with the damp rag. The rag felt good against Cratus's skin, and the melody she sung made him feel at peace. A little later, more humans came, but they were all different too. They rode on horses without bridles or sadles, and the horses had paint on them. Cratus didn't know what to make of these humans, they were so much different than the ones he grew up with. The 'she' human encouraged Cratus to get up, using her soothing voice. Cratus eventually got up on his feet, where the other humans put ropes around his neck. At first, Cratus objected to this, but the 'she' human shushed him and walked beside him the entire way back their home. Cratus didn't quite understand what he saw when they entered the humans village, the people where called the Lakota tribe. They were all so happy, and everyone wasn't restricted by boundaries. The 'she' human lead Cratus to a small corral, where she took the ropes off and gave him plenty of apples. She groomed Cratus down, brushing out all the dirt and twigs. Suprisingly, Cratus slept very soundly that night. When morning came, the 'she' human came and groomed Cratus once more. Cratus learned that morning that the human's name was Avani.
Cratus stayed with the Lakota tribe, and eventually became Avani's horse. Cratus never thought that he would care for a human as much as he did for Avani. It seemed so unnaturally, but somehow, he just did. Avani was everything a human should be, kind, patient, gentle but firm, she was just perfect. Cratus would often go on rides with Avani, and he helped with a lot of Avani's chores. However, Cratus's favorite activity was sitting with Avani during the night. Avani talked to Cratus about her pains during those nights. For some reason, Avani was mistreated in the tribe, she even stated that Cratus was her only true friend. Cratus kept her company and comforted her the best he could during those nights, he cared a lot for Avani and wished he could do more for her. Those nights with Avani were some of the best in Cratus's life, he couldn't have been happier. However, Cratus wasn't ment to stay with the Lakota tribe...
