Sawyer was scared to death and developed a severe fear of snakes. From a young age, the fillies found Sawyer charming and cute. Sawyer idoled his older brother Zeke and wanted to be just like him when he got older. One day, Sawyer decided to go on an adventure and look for new friends. He was galloping through a desert type area when he spotted a golden stallion. Sawyer didn't quite stop in time and ran into the older horse. Spirit turned on him and almost attacked, but when he saw that Sawyer wasn't a threat he backed off. Sawyer and Spirit both grew very interested in each other, each wondering why the other was by himself. The two spent the rest of the day with each other, talking and joking around with each other. By the time the sunset, Sawyer realized that it was getting late and his dad was going to yell at him if he didn't get home soon.

Sawyer was heading home as fast as he could when he heard a female voice calling for help. He ran in the direction of the voice, knowing that he had to help whoever it was. Sawyer arrived to find a seal bay mare caught in a bear trap. She was laying on the ground, her green eyes filled with tears, crying because of the intense pain. Sawyer quickly took action and freed her. The pained, but not seriously injured, mare cryed joyful tears, hugging the strange horse thanking him. Sawyer didn't know what to do so he just stood there and waited for her to finish. Sawyer invited the mare named Bramble to come with him and stay within his families small herd. Dempsey, Sawyer's father, was enraged when the colt came home after half the night was over. But when he saw the tiny mare limping, he forgot about Sawyer and went to help her. The next morning, Sawyer got his first good look at her and insantly wanted to get to know her better. Bramble became Sawyer's best girl friend, and they eventually Developed crushes on each other.
