History: Maelle was born in the Cimarron herd and was close to Spirit. She and him would play hide and seek together,often wandering too far from the herd and coming home after dark, getting into trouble. As they grew older, Maelle started to see Spirit as more than a friend but he didn't feel the same. When Maelle was 2, she was walking in a meadow looking for a place to watch the sunset, when she heard horses thundering toward her. But when she looked up, Maelle saw that they weren't wild. They had strange two legged creatures on their backs. The two leggeds caught Maelle and dragged her back toward their cavalry base. As soon as the got there, the two legged in charge evaluated her and told his men to put her in the chutes so he could trim her mane, shoe,and brand her as she was going to be his horse for " customized " foals.

When Maelle turned of age, her owner took her to a paddock where his liver chestnut stallion, Granite, was enclosed. Maelle didn't like the stallion, as he seemed cold and unfriendly, but she had no choice but to produce a foal with him. The following year, Maelle gave birth to a little dark gray filly she named Suri. The Colonel was very happy with the little filly that was born, so he decided to breed her the following year to Granite's son, Beau. He was not so happy with the colt. Rorke was born prematurely, leaving him excesively small and weak. It was questioned whether he would survive over night. After Rorkes early birth, the Colonel was worried that if he bred Maelle again the foals would turn out small and sickely also.

Maelle was being rode in a pen beside the cavalry base on a hot summer morning when she saw a handsome chestnut stallion with war paint watching her, his dark brown eyes shining with interest. Maelle tried to ignore his stares , but failed as her eyes were continuosly drawn to where he was standing even after he had left.
