Personality: She is a shy horse who is used to things going wrong in her life. Fear builds in her mind often, trying to find a new place for her and her foal to call home. The memory of her mate leaving her still haunts her, but she hides the pain when around others, as well as her foal. She is mistrustful of males, after what happened to her. She is fond and protective of her new foal. Furthermore, she won't talk anyone until she trusts them.

History: She was born in the Cimmaron herd in the chilliness of spring. She became friends with the lead mare's son when he was a few months old, old enough to get away from his over-protective mother. When she was with Spirit, Ventisca and he caused trouble around the herd.

     When Ventisca was a little older, she became clingy to Spirit because she wanted more protection from him since the males seemed to lurk around the herd; Spirit protected her like a little sister.

     One warm summer evening when Ventisca was two years old, a dark bay stallion walked toward the herd and caught Spirit's attention. Spirit didn't want the stallion stranger around, so he warned them to go away, but they did not comply. As the stranger made his way closer, Spirit ran to them and tried to fend them off; it quickly escalated into a fight. Since the stallion was the victor in this fight, he could pick one mare to leave the herd with him, and picked Ventisca since she was so close to Spirit. She was dragged away, leaving her friends and loved ones behind. Ventisca didn't trust the stallion one bit while they were traveling together. She snapped at him whenever he tried to get close to her, which was very often. She hated him for hurting her friend, as well as taking her away from the herd she called home.

     Later, Ventisca found herself pregnant, and hated the stallion even more when she realized she was. Months later during her pregnancy, a blizzard hit the area hard, dumping several feet of snow. Due to her increased weight from her pregnancy, Ventisca had a difficult time walking through the snow, and that made the stallion angry. Without caring, the stallion up and left her. Then she grew scared, as well as relieved that the cold-hearted stallion was gone. She found a cave and stayed in it for warmth and protection.

     Fear overtook the the pregnant mare after her so-called "mate" left. She hated him for getting her pregnant, and then leaving her, not giving a care what happened to her or the foal inside her. After the storm was over, she left the cave to find some grass to eat, but it was covered by snow. Any water she found was frozen over. But when she noticed that the snow melted when it fell on her muzzle, she realized that snow was just frozen water. She took several mouthfuls of snow and swallowed them. A good water source was all around her, so she wouldn't go thirsty. She went back to the cave and laid down carefully, waiting out the days until her foal was born, and grass was again growing.

     Early one spring afternoon, the foal was born. Ventisca grew close to them as well as protective, and since then hasn't left her new foal's side.
