Mars was a Lakota horse, he lived with Rain and Little Creek. He had known Rain ever since they were foals, and he had been there for her all the time. Little Creek would ride Rain more often, and Mars was used as a youngsters horse. Mars wasn't too happy about this, because he was teased for being a youngsters horse. But he often proved other horses wrong over wild races and large jumps.

When Spirit came, he developed a liking for Rain. Mars had always known that Rain had a bit of a crush on him. Spirit became jealous of Mars, and Mars often played and pranced about with Rain to make him even more jealous. But Mars and Spirit started to get into fights. Rain was unaware that Spirit was fighting over her and told them both off. Mars and Rain had an arguement over their fights, but soon forgave each other.

Mars started to become jealous when Rain was spending more time with Spirit. He was absolutely outraged when he heard that the two had fallen in love. Mars and Spirit then had a stand off, the two started fighting in private. But their fighting was interupted by the sound of screaming. The Lakota Village was being invaded by the Cavalry! Spirit raced down and jumped in after Rain, leaving Mars upset and worried.

The Lakota people travelled to a lonely place and set up camp. They had managed to cure Rain and she was getting better. Mars had apologised when he told her what happened to him and Spirit, and Rain didn't speak to him that day. Spirit arrived and him and Rain greeted each other. Mars and Little Creek decided that it was time to let Rain go. Mars apologised to Rain before she went, and Rain said "I forgive you".
