Bio: Curtis was born into into his mother's clan. He was very small at the time so he didn't remember much from it. One winter he had gotton seperated from the herd, and found himself lost in the ruthless, cold, dead of Winter. He wandered alone and hungry for days until he encountered a hungry cougar who was anxious to get his paws on something to eat. Curtis was a small defenseless foal, and made the perfect meal for a cougar in winter. Curtis shook; he wanted to run away but fear had him frozen still his eyes wide opened at the cougar lunging towards him. But just then a tall black horse leaped through the air his rider screaming sounds Curtis had never heard before! The horse and rider quickly scared the Cougar away and ensured that he didn't try something like that again.
Curtis moved his eyes to the horse and rider and unknowing of what they were, he stepped back and tried to run. But the horse stepped in front of him, while his rider grabbed Curtis and slipped a twine rope over his head. Curtis didn't know what had him now but he didn't like it! Soon the horse and his human led Curtis to a large valley area filled with strange cave-looking things. Curtis was truly afraid now, but knew he couldn't escape with this rope-thing attached to him. The human dismounted the tall black horse and took off his bridle. Curtis whinnied out to him as he walked away: "H-Hey where are you going? W-where am I??" The black stallion smiled. "You are safe young one. You do not need to panic." With that he walked away. Curtis was then led away to a pasture filled with mares and foals. The human finally released Curtis from his rope, making him gallop about in fright. But after awile Curtis was scared and sat down. He cried, he wanted to go home. A foal approched him and sat beside him. "Hey why are you crying new comer?" He asked looking a sad Curtis. "I don't know where I am and I want to go home!" Curtis wailed. Soon a mare walked up to Curtis. "Are you hungry young one?" She nuzzled his tears away. Curtis looked to her, and nodded slowly. "Well come here then." The mare turned, allowing Curtis to suckle from her. And although this solved Curtis' hunger problem, he was still longing to go back to his home. Curtis began to cry again, but the mare wouldn't allow it. She nuzzled him to his feet. "Where is it you live young one?" She asked in a soft voice. "I-I'm not sure..." Curtis shook his head. "Well, if you do not know where you need to return to, don't you think it is best to stay here where you are safe young one? Then maybe when you are old enough to defend yourself you could go out and look for your home now could you not?" She smiled at him. Curtis gave her a weak small smile "Uh-huh... I guess so..." "Good." The mare then made her way to the center of the field where mares and foals had gathered laying down. Curtis looked to them with curiousity. The mare then began to sing a lullaby for the gathered sleepy foals. Growing a sudden attachment to the mare, Curtis joined them making his way to the front. Her voice was a soothing beautiful tone, that seemed to chase the anxiety right out of Curtis sending him slowly into sleep.
Curtis came to know this mare as Kaya. She always took care of him and ensured his safety. In a way, this mare had become a foster mother to Curtis. This mare was also mates with the black stallion who saved him. This was Curtis' foster father. Curtis grew up there in the Lakota tribe with the rest of the foals and horses. His whole life he had been by Kaya's side, but now that Curtis had turned two years old, it was time for him to be chosen by a rider, to fight in battles and make journeys whenever nessesary. Which meant that he was going to be spending alot of time with his father. As a foal Curtis had been amazed at the stories that his foster mother would tell of the great warrior horses. and how brave and strong they were. He was so happy and exited that he would now become one! He awaited the young human warriors patiently. He had caught the attention of a young boy. As Curtis was chosen, he was given the name Hawkfire by his rider. As Curtis began his training, he had grown acustomed to seeing his rider everyday. He was comfortable riding with him.
But one unfortunet day, the village was attacked by the Calvery. They stormed everything and forced many humans to their knees. Curtis watched with his foster mother and father as his home was destroyed and set to flame.Curtis felt tears run down his eyes as he truly felt fear. His father stomped his hoof irritatedly, wanting to get out there and help. His rider soon came to get him, but Kaya nipped at his mane a desperate look in her eye that Curtis had never seen before. He nuzzled her reassuringly as he galloped off with his rider. But unlike his foster father, Curtis wished that his rider didn't come to get him! He was afraid! He was scared! He didn't like this at all! But sure enough, his rider did arive. and he slipped his bridle on and mounted. His foster mother looked to him just as she had done with his foster father. Curtis wanted to gallop back to her, but he couldn't. He was urged into battle. But there was suddenly a lound gunshot, and Curtis reared frightened. with that his rider fell, and Curtis ran off blindly. But he was soon found by a calvery soldier and roped. At this Curtis whinnied out scared to death. But there was nothing he could do. He was roped and tied to a pair of horses who fled from the village, and Curtis could only make out a small burning spec in the distance.
From there he was taken to a calvery camp. For the rest of Curtis' life until he reach 3 1/2 years old, he was raised here. He hated it there, it was aweful, and the horses were mean. He was never able to stop being dissapointed in himself for being such a coward back at the village, and now he had truly lost everything. Curtis soon got used to the way of riding with the calvery, but he still didn't like violence and battling. So one day when the men took their horses out for test shots, the first sound of gunfire sent Curtis into a frenzy. he bucked his rider, and ran off as fast as he could. not caring about anything in his path. He just wanted to get away. But with no sense of direction and his tack becoming heavier by the minute, he stopped to rest under a tree. he looked to a branch and tossed his head so that his reins hooked to it, then he pulled as hard as he could until he was free of his bridle. Curtis then turned his attention to his saddle. He had seen mares from the calvery use this trick so he decided to try it as well. He sucked in his breath and held it, until his saddle became loose enough to shake off. With all of his tack off and nothing binding him to nothing... He finally got the sinsation that he was free. But now that he was free, what would he do? where would he go? Curtis thought back in his mind to when he had first arrived at the Lakota tribe, and how he was sad because he wanted to return home. He decided that's where he would go. He would search for his true family, and his herd. And so his journey began...
