As a foal, Sunset was born and raised in a tribe which was the enemy of the Lakota. During a battle with the Lakota, Sunset’s best friend, Golden Sun, was shot and killed by Little Creek. Later on, Sunset would go on to eventually meet and heal with Rain. He falls for a former Cavalry mare later on still.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personality:
Originally, like most colts, was absolutely arrogant, and overtly self-centered. He flaunted his strength and handsome self very actively, and made a point of showing off that he was just as brave as the others. His tribe was at war with another, and they were to be war horses for the battle that was soon to come. Sunset was sure he was to be the best war horse they had, and was very much excited, as was the usual for the colts. It took up nearly all of their time. However, once he got out of the battle, he had undergone a jarring change, becoming suddenly very anxious, docile, and pacifistic. He vowed to himself never to fight again, and did just that: He refused to fight for any reason. He desperately wishes that the others would see how terrible the war really was. He was often accused of being a traitor and a coward, but never responded. He only ever got a little better after healing with a bit of help from Rain, but never regained his former arrogance or will to fight.

History:
Born to an unknown mare and stallion in a tribe which was at war with the Lakota tribe, like all the colts, Sunset loved listening to the war stories of the old stallions. At first, it sounded glorious to carry their riders into victory, and all the colts wanted that.
For all their first two and a half years, the colts showed off and tested their strength. There was nothing they enjoyed more, and it consumed nearly all of their time. Sunset was one of the most eager, alongside his best friend, a honey roan called Golden Sun. The two never left one another and were always ready to race or box playfully – they’d been raised together since birth.
However, finally the day came that the colts would be taken into battle. Once everything exploded into chaos, Sunset was terrified, blindly following the orders of his rider. He could do nothing else.
But only one thing was engrained into the colt’s memory. He had been running about wildly, when all the sudden he could spot Gold in the maelstrom. Sunset was made to follow him when suddenly the honey roan dropped, his rider leaping off, as he tripped and trolled over his front. Gold had blocked the path that Sunset was intended to take, and he reared up, frightened, kicking out.
A young man dove under him, touching the fallen horse’s coat and pulling out the arrow he had shot. He looked up when Sunset reared, a temporary flash of fear on his face.
That face was to be forever remembered clearly by Sunset. He didn’t know the young man’s name, but it was Little Creek.
After the battle, which Sunset’s tribe had won, there was a general feeling of jolliness and triumph during the walk home. All took joy in the victory except for Sunset, who was still deeply in shock. On that moment, he swore to himself never to fight again.
He never would.
After that, Sunset never took part in the festivities of the other colts, their contests and boxing, and they often mocked him. He never responded. Eventually, one day, whilst Sunset was drinking at a stream, the others ganged up on him, asking why he was such a coward, accusing him of being a traitor, claiming that he had helped the Lakota and that Sunset was responsible for Golden Sun’s death. Sunset tried to ignore them, but they cornered him and started to beat him around with their heads.
Sunset attempted to break through the circle, but they started rearing and boxing him. They beat him mercilessly, until finally he managed to force his way out and he ran. He ran far, unaware that he had a concussion, and eventually he passed out under an apple tree.
When he woke up, a pretty pinto mare was sitting next to him, with a few apples in front of him. It was clear she was worried.
Unbeknownst to Sunset, this was Rain, and Sunset’s image had been imprinted on her mind when she locked onto him in fear that he was going to kill Little Creek, just as Sunset had remembered the young human.
Sunset was too dizzy and couldn’t remember anything. He couldn’t stand up just yet and thanked the mare for the apples. He probably asked her name five or six times, and she patiently responded.
After a few weeks, he was okay again, and a bit more confident around the more peaceful mare. However, he wanted to go, and after thanking Rain, he set back off. He eventually met a beautiful blue roan appaloosa, and he offered to travel with her. Her name was Broken. Once he convinced her to let him, he became very fond of her, and even felt like he was falling for her.
