Soon after the twins turned 3, their owners began to run out of money and couldn't buy food to feed them. The couple took the two fillies and their friend, Baine, to a remote area in the woods, dropped them off and left.

Two years later, Sprite met a very handsome buckskin stallion named Spirit. He asked her to become his mate and lead mare. She agreed. One day, Sprite went out in search of a better place to stay and met with a black stallion. They chated for a minute but then she had to go back to tell Spirit what she had found. She noticed the stallion following her but didn't think nothing of it. When she got back, she heard Spirit call out to the stallion Piano, in greeting. Until he saw that he was following his lead mare and mate. Spirit went into a rage and attacked the stallion. Finally when the fight was over Piano and Sprite left together to start a herd.
