Story
Ben was born in a small barn in a ranch Canada, but he was destined for bigger things. His owners wanted him to be a rodeo horse. When he turned 3, they began to break him in. On his 4th birthday he was backed and his train ride was booked to go to a famous rodeo run by the military, for sheer enjoyment and decreasing stress. It was 2 months before Ben was to go to the rodeo, and in that time he was treated much more horribly as usual, and he didn't understand why. Everytime the weight of a person was put on his back, he would spook.
One day, someone tried to back him again. As soon as he sat on Ben galloped forwards at full speed. He then stopped, letting the man fall off his shoulders. He was so scared he began to rear, kick and stomp his feet, unaware that the man was under his hooves. He trampled the man to death, and punished greatly for it. He went a full month with no food, only a sip of water two days. He got much more skinnier, and weaker.
When it was his time to go to the rodeo, they could see his ribs, but they didn't care. They loaded him on the train, preparing him for the long journey with a pile of hay. He dove in. It was his first proper meal in ages. On the way to the rodeo, the train went off track and crashed. Ben lost his eye, but still went on to fullfill his owners dreams. He was in the vet for a weak, then moved to quarintine for 3 weeks in the rodeos back stables. It was a long time for Ben, but with full proper meals again he was quite happy. He got alot more fatter, 'till his ribs disappeared.
When Ben started the rodeo, they started to use the whips on him alot more than his previous owners did. When he refused to buck, 500 volts of electricity were shot through him, which made him scared and annoyed. He was a rodeo horse for a full 2 years, and his life went for okay to horribly bad. One day, the rodeo was sued for abuse, and it was shut down. Ben and the majority of all the horses were sent to a cavalry base about 200 miles from the rodeo. It was there Ben lived the last few years of his life.
He was appointed a messenger horse, galloping back and forth every day with a man on his back. It took sevral men, but Ben was finally backed. Apart from his hard job, Ben liked his new life. They never used whips, they used spurs. They did give quite a nip but they didn't hurt him much. Every month he would get a week off to rest. They treated him well and loved him.
One day, Ben was sent out on a message to a small native americanvillage. The journey was 4 days long, and very tiring. The message was urgent, declaring that the village must create an alliance with the cavalry. When they arrive at the village and present the message to the cheif, who is outraged at the thought of it. He throws off Ben's rider and ties him up, sending him away. Ben was roped and taken into the pen.
When the natives let Ben loose in the paddock, they were surprised at how quiet he was. Most of the cavalry horses they had encountered were viscious and moody; Ben was just scared. He stood at the corner, flattening his ears. He wouldn't hurt the men, he could never bring himself to do it. He let them take off his tack, and the kindness they showed calmed him down.
Once he was un-tacked, washed down and fed another mare was turned into the paddock. She was pure white, except from a splash of brown on her flank, the same shade of brown as a stocking on her back legs and a black badger face. She had stunning grey eyes, and Ben's stomach went all swirly. He was slowly falling in love with this gorgeous mare, going by the name of Winter...
