Foalhood-Yearling
Serafin's mother lived in Spirit's herd and was one of his favored mares. Serafin was born in early spring as a strong boisterous foal. He was clever, curious, and had endless energy that he used for playing and exploring. He was the first foal born that spring and as a result, all of the younger foals looked up to him. Spirit always taught Serafin to be careful, but Serafin was arrogant as a young stallion. After Spirit was captured and taken away, Serafin wanted to be leader of the herd even though he was only a yearling. He tried to lead the herd, challenging Esperanza's decisions and trying to take charge. This resulted in Serafin being chased out of the herd. He left to make his own way in the world, hopefully finding a mate and herd as he traveled.
Young Stallion
After Serafin left Spirit's herd, he traveled by himself for a few months, living bountifully off the lush grass on the plains. As he wandered farther and farther and explored mroe and more he began to understand the dangers of the world. He was almost bitten by a rattlesnake, quickly making him attune to the rattling noise should he veer come across one again. One day, as Serafin wandered through a sparse forest, he heard strange noises ahead. Not knowing what is was he followed the noise until he walked right into the camp of some horse wranglers. Theywere sitting around a campfire when one of the wranglers saw Serafin and shouted the alarm to the others. Panicking, Serafin bucked around the campsite, unsure of how to escpae because the wranglers were closing in on him. He accidently kicked one of the cotton blankets on the fire, and it quickly blazed, spreadin the flames to everything around it. Serafin, wild with fear, galloped away as the forest began to catch fire around him. He narrowly escaped with his life and his freedom and this created a fear of fire so strong that as soon as he smells smoke, Serafin turns and runs.
Stallion
Serafin wandered from herd to herd, spending a few weeks with a group of bachelor stallions here, a small welcoming herd there, before moving on. He enjoyed exploring the land and seeing new places. He saw Spirit's herd often, visiting his mother and father for a few days before moving on a again. It was as an adult that he had another run in with the Cavalry. He was wandering through the canyons when he heard familiar noises fomr behind him. He turned to see wranglers galloping towards him, and he sprinted away. The chase went on for some time before Serafin turned a corner and suddenly hit a dead end. He skittered back and forth nervously before turning and standing his ground to fight to the death for his freedom. The wranglers, five of them, blocked his path. He bounded forward, rearing andkicking, when he felt something slip around his neck and tighten, blocking his air supply. He jerked backwards when another one caught his throat. He shook his head violently and bounded away, despite his inability to breathe. The wranglers held fast though, and after an hour of fighting, Serafin was too tired to carry on. He stubbornly began to follow them out of the canyons when he heard a familiar rattling noise. A rattlesnake had slithered out in front of them and was hissing violently. The wrangler's horses began to panic and turn, getting tangled and srafin saw this as his chance. He wriggled fiercely out of the ropes nd galloped away, making it to safety and freedom once again.
