History:
Meridian was born in the Lakota tribe. Both her parents were Lakota horses, and her older brother was a prized war horse. Merri, as her family always called her, was happy and safe, and she grew up trusting the humans of the tribe. However, one day whilst she was still a foal the Cavalry suddenly attacked the settlement.
Little Merri was terrified, and hid behind her mother the whole time, who protected her young foal by viciously snapping at any officers who approached. Eventually the battle ended, and the army retreated, taking with them some of the Lakota’s horses. Amongst the captured horses was Meridian’s older brother. Her family were heartbroken, believing they’d never see him again. As for Merri, she’d been traumatised by the battle, and when she was finally old enough to be trained she proved completely unsuitable as a war horse due to her experiences. As a result, she was instead trained to pull the travois whenever the tribe moved camp. Since she’s not a war horse, she was never decorated with war paint or feathers.
One day, sometime after the attack on the tribe, Little Creek returned with Spirit. After an emotional reunion the mustang stallion left with Rain. Meridian and her family began to hope that their son/brother would return as well, and, sure enough, a little while after Rain left with Spirit, the flaxen stallion found his way home with his grey and chestnut friends. The horses were delighted and Merri, now a yearling, refused to leave her big brother’s side for days after he returned.
As Meridian grew up her coat began to shine with dapples of good health, and she became noticeably beautiful. One day a stunning red chestnut stallion arrived at the camp. His cool, introverted and sometimes downright rude attitude surprised her, and Meridian decided to help him to settle into the camp. With her gentle charm and genuine interest in him, Merri gradually won Hoult over, and the more time they spent together the more the two horses began to fall for each other.
