Personality
Signal is what you would call a normal mare. Sometimes she can be quiet, sometimes she can be friendly, and other times, she can be chatty. She can get angry when something doesn't go her way or she can be really quiet when she's nervous. But when she's hanging out with friends, she can be friendly and chatty.
History
Signal was named because of her bright coat color, which stuck out the most among the other foals. She had an older brother named Sunwoven. Sunwoven was a two-year-old. Signal and Sunwoven often played together and hung out with each other, since Signal had no other friends.
One night, there was a huge storm. Winds blew over the valley, and rain soaked the earth. Signal and her family huddled together miserably in a grove of trees. The next morning, the storm was over. Signal's family walked out of the grove of trees and down onto the floor of the valley to graze. That was when Signal spotted a small grey filly with a black muzzle.
"Mother," Signal said. "Look over there, near those large rocks. There's a strange filly standing over there."
Signal's mother looked in Signal's direction. Her eyes widened when she saw the filly. To Signal's surprise, her and Signal's father trotted toward the filly. After a few minutes, they returned to Sunwoven and Signal with the small filly at their side.
"This filly says she lost her parents during the storm last night," Signal's father said. "For now, she will be living with our family, until we can find her parents."
So that was what Signal's parents did. They left the filly behind with Sunwoven and Signal. They looked for the filly's parents, but couldn't find them. Finally, they decided to go back.
"We'll have to adopt the filly," Signal's father said when he returned. "We couldn't find her parents and she is far too young to be living by herself."
"What's your name, filly?" Signal's mother asked.
"Sycamore," the filly said in a very small voice.
Soon, Signal's parents began to pay more attention to Sycamore than to Signal. They ignored her completely. But Sunwoven still played with her.
But one day, Spirit, the lead stallion, drove Sunwoven out of the herd because he had accidentally hurt a young foal. Signal was heartbroken to see him go. Now she had no friends. She tried to play with Sycamore, but Sycamore never liked her. She said that Signal was too rough with her. To make it worse, now that Sunwoven was gone, Signal's parents acted like they had only one daughter. Signal was forgotten.
From that day on, Signal hated Sycamore with a bitter hatred because she got the most attention. Signal began to spend more time on her own. Now that she was two years old, she thought she was old enough to live by herself. So she did. She avoided her parents at all times, and they avoided her.
One day, things changed. A pretty yearling filly named Phenomenon became her best friend. Spirit and Rain's son, a colt named Flaming Star, had started flirting with Signal. Signal ignored his antics.
One night, when Signal was four, Flaming Star decided to impress her by jumping over the largest chasm in the mountains. But he fell and was captured by the cavalry at the bottom. Signal began to avoid the mountains. When Flaming Star returned, he fought off a stallion named Goldenfrost that was trying to impress Signal. Signal was impressed by Flaming Star's strenght and asked him to be her mate. He agreed.
Relation to Spirit
Signal is Spirit and Rain's daughter-in-law.
