History

Foal-Filly: Russet was born into the Cimarron herd, along side Spirit. Her mother had been friends with Esperanza since te very start of te herd. The two mares had planned t ave thier foals become mates when they where older. Russet and Spirit were the best of friends in the begining. They never went anywhere or played any games unless the other could come or play. They never really looked at eac other as anything more than friends at this age, after all Spirit was male and he carried Cootie flies. These tougt slowly begain to change as the two foals grew up. 

2 years of age now and bot foals were starting to learn that a crush could be more tan just that. Spirit and Russet would activly flirt with one another but kept each other int e friendzone much to thier mothers dismay. However neither liked seeing the other flirt and Be around the oposite genders. This was more so the case for Russet who did not have a lot of colts to chose from while spirit had many fillys falling over his feet, as he was the future lead stallion. Russet begain t want to travel and find a stallion just for herself. as she got ready to go spirit stopped her, and told her how much he liked her, Russet did the same, and the two became an Item.  However Russet is a very jealous filly and she didn't take to his natural longing to still flirt with other mares. this begain to cause problems.

Mare: It finally happend Russet had had enough of spirits flirting with the other herd mares, and she saught after the only other male in the herd at the time. An slightly elder stallion. Spirit became furious and ran him out of the herd which only mad Russet mad, she told him she no longer wished to be his mare and stormed off, feelings hurt. The two pretended to hate each other from that point on, but they both still cared about one anther in secret. When Cowboys came into the lands, and captured spirit, Russet went after them, upon seeing him roped up in the gorge, Ignoring his protest. However Russets never been a fighter and it did not take long for the men to rope her up as well. They were sold to the calvary. 

In the calvary Spirit tried to protect Russet fromt he humans, but soon they were seperated, and Russet was put into a stall with a strong looking stallion, he loked somewhat strict and wel trained. He was the Colonel's mount. Russet was taken away with this stallion, but she was far to young for him in his mind. Russet and The Colonel's Mount became close in a short period of time. Her personality broke though his tough walls, and he treated her like a daughter, even though she had another idea for them in mind. When Russet saw what they were doing to Spirit she was horrified and tried to talk The Colonel's Mount into helping him. But he was far to loyal and well trained to. Russet would sneak out of her shared stable at night and go to spirit, telling him how sorry she was. eventually with the help of a Lakota Boy Spirit broke free. Russet made the escape with him, but halted in ehr tracks when The Colonel's Mount called out for her to stay. She was torn on where to go, but before she could make up her mind on her own, calvary men through ropes around her neck. She cried out to spirit for help, having made up her mind to late. Spirit went to look back at her, but the lakota who had helped him made a funny sound and a lovely paint mare came running up, She took Spirits attention away from Russet who was still bucking and fighting the ropes, and calling out for him. But she went on on heard as he was mesmerized by the paint mare. Russet watched in Horror as more humans like the Lakota roped up spirit she knew in her heart she might never see him again and with a heavy heart she gave up trying to fight and allowed the Calvary ment to take her back to the fort.

Through this time, The Colonel's mount comforted her as much as he could, and now finally she only saw him as a friend, for she how knew her true feelings for spirit and now they were useless. She became that typical well trained Calvary horse, and slowly but surely that fire begain to leave her eyes. One day a Flaxen stallion named Timber came into the Calvary. Russet could see in his eyes that he was wild, and she quickly went to him they begain to make a plan to bust free of the calvary. SHe tld him she had someone  she needed to get back to. It didn't take long for them to bust free. Russet traveled with him as he said he was fromt he cimarron as well on the Cedar side of it, while Russet was fromt he Strider side of it, when she told him this TImber became very cold to her, and mean. she didn't understand but she could not wait to get back home.

Back in her homelands, it did not take her long to spot the stunning Buckskin stallion she had missed so much. She ran to him, once he saw her they danced around each other happily. Esperanza arrived on the scene, she smile and then it faded quickly as she looked past the two to see Rain who looked confused. Spirit's eyes followed his mothers gaze and he turned around fast, to see a less then pleased rain. Russet turned to face the mare, and she put two and two together, she was the mare who had drowned out her cries for help long ago wit her beauty and now she was the lead mare of the herd. Russet backed up and feld from Spirit and the herd. He followed her, and asked her to stay, stating that he still felt for her, that she would just be one of his mares. But thats not what Russet wanted, she didn't want to share spirit. she wanted his heart, just has he had hers, no one else had hers, so she didn't want anyone to have his. She said nothing as she left him and disapeared over the hillside.
