Personality: Hotspur is a nervous, sweet horse who got along well with others but did not take well to noise and stimulation. He loves to canter and loves to please his owner, whoever that might be. He takes to the saddle and reigns easily, and is a very gentle ambler. He lives to work, and loves every minute - however, Hotspur is a very sensitive horse and takes harsh words or treatment badly. He can't stand the thought of disappointing others and hates the fact that there are bad people in the world - However, the fact that he, rather than another unfortunate horse, has to deal with bad drivers on any given day makes it a bit more bareable.

Likes: dressage, having good drivers, being a dressage horse, mares, pleasing others

Dislikes: Bad drivers, being abused

History: Hotspur was a colt born with a high-bred lineage in London. He stayed there for his early life and late colthood until he was three, then he was sold as a dressage horse.

This was the happiest time in Hotspur's life. He had a great stable, good friends, and very good treatment. After a couple years, though, he grew too old for dressage and was sold off. Hotspur was ready and willing to do anything his rider wanted him to. Unfortunately, though, Hotspur's life was about to hit it's low as suddenly as it had hit it's high.

He was to be rented out as a driving horse for carts, where he would be driven by whatever taxi driver got him that day. Some days, unfortunately, were better than others.

On the high end there were good drivers who showed him where to go and didn't whip him hard if they whipped at all. On the low end there were tight-reigned drivers who pulled the check-reign high, choking Hotspur, and whipped him heavily and hard at random intervals for no reason - Hotspur suspected the driver had some fine lady in his cart he wanted to impress... Hotspur doubted that this was the way.

Sometimes he would fall and his driver would beat him about the head. He was left with scars on his hindquarters after four months.

After three long years he was rented out by a drunkard. He took the horse to the tavern and left him out in the winter cold for several hours. When he finally came out, he was very drunk and ran Hotspur back to his stables. He did not slow down the whole time, and about half way there, Hotspur slipped. He fell and scarred his leg, and could not work without a slight limp after that.

As a result, he was sold off again. This time, Hotspur was sold to some coal miners in the American West. He was pessimistic. He was right. When he got there, he was worked mercilessly until he collapsed.

When he finally was strong enough to stand again, they had made a decision to put him out in the wild.

Eventually he found his way to Spirit's herd, and stayed there for awhile. Hotspur stayed there for around four months, but finally made a personal decision to leave and start his own herd. He knew he needed to as a wild horse, so he found his way to a valley and staked it out as his own. He knew it was safe and it was very warm, so he decided that was where he'd stay. He soon found several mares to join him as well as a few stallion.

Mind if I make a Mare for him?

I did take the name from the book, certainly. And that IS where the inspiration came from, obviously. xD I loved the book, really -- I want my version rebound so that I don't lose the copy, considering how old it is. Yeah, I tried not to take any of the less common details, since he was a cab horse. Considering that, and how terrible people can be to animals, I figured it'd be fine.

In the book, Black Beauty eventually becomes a London cab horse. He and a grey horse called Captain are owned by a cabby called Jerry Baker. Captain is injured in an accident, and replaced by a brown colt called Hotspur, although not much is said about him in the book.

there are other similarities to the book in this bio too, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Everyone is perfectly allowed to take inspiration from other sources, just as long as you don't outright steal it. And, to be honest, many horses in the 19th century would have been abused and poorly treated, so it's quite realistic from that viewpoint ^^

Well, I've read Black Beauty two or three times, so it's quite possible I'd gotten some inspiration from there.

Thanks, Blackhorse! ^^ Sure they can be friends. It wouldn't be unlikely that they'd meet, I don't think. ^^ I'm glad you ike him. He was my favorite character up until this morning, I've only just designed a new filly... first in my character arsenal. xD

He's such a lovely stallion, and I love his coat colour. Y'know, my 'sona, Autumn Rain, was born in London and shipped out the American West. Do you think they might like to be friends? She's still a tame horse, and I'm not looking for a love interest for her, but she's always open to friends ^^
